Under the general direction of the BSN Program Director/Department Chair, the lab instructor is responsible to deliver instruction in nursing clinical skills and provides technical support during simulation. Support may include lab maintenance and readiness before and during simulation scenarios and skills labs. This may include instruction, administrative tasks, technical support, and operational duties such as stocking or distributing supplies.
Essential Duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Set up equipment, supplies and mannequins for clinical skills demonstrations according to established guidelines.
- Assist Faculty, Simulation Coordinator, and Lab Coordinator in the preparation, use, monitoring, and maintenance of the nursing labs and simulation mannequins.
- Facilitation of faculty-supervised simulated nursing activities for students.
- Provides initial or remedial instruction in nursing clinical skills and simulation for students.
- Provide a safe, secure, and comfortable lab environment for students by keeping lab equipment clean and in good working order.
- Assist students with supplemental instructional media

- Must be detail-oriented and well organized;
- Computing skills required;
- Proficiency in word-processing, spreadsheet, and database applications are essential; specifically Microsoft Office and Google applications.
- Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills are essential.
- Must be capable of working independently in order to negotiate appropriate clinical placements with partners that represent multiple clinical agencies within and outside of the greater Frederick community.
- Familiarity with Clinical Assignments for Healthcare Students (CAHS) preferred.
Must be a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a minimum of a Bachelors Science degree in Nursing. Must hold a current unencumbered Maryland Registered Nursing license. The equivalent of two years of full time, current clinical nursing experience is required. Previous experience with simulation learning or interest in professional development to increase knowledge of computerized simulation in the lab preferred.

Proficient in MS Office tools (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), e-mail and Internet. Ability to learn new applications quickly including organization-wide information systems and department-specific software applications.
Language Skills
Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to effectively provide information and positively respond to questions from both external and internal customers both in person and by phone. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Mathematical Skills
Proficient with statistical and financial concepts. Must have the ability to apply those concepts to tracking, projections, goal setting and interpreting reports. Must be able to draw conclusions from reports and make cost effective decisions regarding programs.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a number of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to work independently and as a member of a group in developing and executing project plans. Ability to work in theoretical arena and apply logic as appropriate.
