Job Description

The Department of Mathematics & Statistics in the College of Science at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMU-CC) invites applications for a senior-level faculty position of Mathematics at the rank of Associate Professor to begin fall 2023. We seek candidates with a record of excellence in research, teaching, and service. The department is committed to building a diverse, supportive, and inclusive community for all students and faculty, and is particularly interested in candidates who have a demonstrated interest in furthering these goals. Applicants must provide evidence of highly successful college-level teaching, a plan for new or continued scholarship, and a commitment to engage in service expected of a university faculty member. Faculty at the associate professor level are required to assume leadership roles in external funding efforts, curriculum development, department initiatives, support of the graduate program, and assist in the broader educational mission of the department. The new faculty member will join a group of 22 mathematics, statistics, and mathematics education current full-time faculty who serve the entire campus community.

Applicants must demonstrate they meet standards for tenure and promotion at TAMUCC. These include: a nationally recognized research program, with a commensurate publication and extramural funding record, demonstrated experience mentoring graduate students at the MS and doctoral levels, a track record of impactful classroom instruction at multiple levels, and evidence of effective professional and institutional service.

The successful candidate will continue to maintain an active research agenda as manifested by scholarly publications, grant writing, and mentoring of graduate students, while teaching nine contact hours per semester supporting the Bachelor of Science and Master of Science programs. We expect the candidate to collaborate with the faculty in our department, other departments within the college, as well as other colleges across the university in applications of mathematics/statistics/data science to engineering, natural and environmental science, coastal and marine studies, etc. Additional necessary duties include service at all levels.

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics strives to increase its research profile while maintaining excellence in teaching courses in the BS and MS program in mathematics as well as service courses. The MS in Mathematics Program with its three tracks - Applied and Computational Mathematics, Statistics, and Mathematics Education - provides our students with preparation for careers in education, science, and industry, as well as a solid foundation for further study in mathematics. An online Data Science MS program will begin in the Fall of 2023. The Department participates in interdisciplinary Ph.D. programs offered by the College of Science. Faculty actively supervising PhD students teach six contact hours per semester. Our department is active in a variety of research areas across multiple mathematical concentrations, including modeling, differential equations, fluid dynamics, elasticity, electro and magneto-statics, porous media, microorganism swimming, fracture mechanics, analysis, statistics, mathematics education, and data science. We also serve our community by providing expertise to local schools, industry, and business.

Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi is an expanding, doctoral-granting institution committed to preparing graduates for lifelong learning and responsible citizenship in the global community. We are dedicated to excellence in teaching, research, creative activity, and service. Our supportive, multicultural learning community provides undergraduate and graduate students with a challenging educational experience through residential, distance learning and international programs. The university's federal designation as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) provides a foundation for closing educational gaps, while its strategic location on the Gulf of Mexico and on the cultural border with Latin America provides a basis for gaining national and international prominence.
