Post Doctoral Fellow - Center for Health Facilities Design and Testing

Description

The Center for Health Facilities Design and Testing, CHFDT within the School of Architecture at Clemson University is seeking to hire a Post-Doctoral Research Associate for a period of two years. The position is a non-tenure track position with a one-year contract, renewable annually. The CU fellow in Advancing Research in Mental Health through Digital and Built Environment Infrastructure Design will help develop a strong transdisciplinary research program focused on the impact of the digital and built environment on mental health, with a specific focus on children and adolescents. The CU fellow will play an integral role in maximizing the impacts of ongoing grant funded projects as well as leveraging the expertise of the team to build capacity for the future.

The key activities for this position will include:

  • Support the mission of the CHFDT, located on the Clemson campus in Clemson, SC, focused on improving patient safety and quality of care in high-risk clinical care settings.
  • The projects at CHFDT typically involve multidisciplinary teams engaged in research, design innovation, prototyping and evaluation around healthcare environments.
  • Actively participate on collaborative research grants and contracts including a recently funded grant from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality focused on pediatric mental health, and work with faculty, staff and students in a dynamic team environment.
  • Support the development of grant proposals in the area of mental health and digital and built infrastructure design Lead development of peer-reviewed journal articles and other products

Essential Job Responsibilities & Duties

These are some of the key responsibilities of the Post-Doctoral Research Associate. However, this is not an exhaustive list, but intended to provide a sense of the types of activities that may be involved:

Research Projects

  • Plan, organize, and conduct grant funded research and consulting projects
  • Develop and submit IRB protocols for research projects
  • Read, evaluate, and summarize research articles related to projects
  • Develop peer-reviewed journal manuscripts in collaboration with team members
  • Support development of proposals for research grant funding

Outreach & Promotion

  • Present research work at conferences and meetings
  • Help build relationships with faculty and staff at Clemson as well as partnering organizations
  • Prepare reports for completed projects for internal publication, presentation to grantors, or for use in trade magazines

Leadership

  • Train and mentor graduate students in Architecture plus Health on relevant research methods and approaches
  • Provide oversight and management support on projects
  • Help manage outside consultants and team members, as needed, for projects
  • Help manage research project budgets and timelines, as needed in collaboration with the project coordinator

Qualifications

The qualifications and requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or ability required to perform the job successfully. The education, experience, and technologies needed for this job are:

  • Experience working on collaborative research projects as part of a larger team
  • Minimum of 3 years proven experience as a researcher
  • Doctoral degree
  • Clinical, human factors or relevant healthcare design experience or background preferred
  • Excellent writing skills and ability to communicate results of research to a diverse audience
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to perform well in a team environment
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Excellent project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects
  • Proficient in using the Internet, along with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Suite as well as statistical applications such as SPSS
  • Strong interest and background in healthcare design research especially as it relates to mental health, including knowledge of research design and use of research in architecture and/or healthcare
