The Munroe-Meyer Institute (MMI) for Genetics and Rehabilitation at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) is currently accepting applications for the Director of the Department of Speech-Language Pathology (SLP). MMI’s mission is to be world leaders in transforming the lives of all individuals with disabilities and complex health care needs. MMI recently moved into the world’s most advanced, 220,000 sq ft facility for diagnostics and care of individuals with IDD (https://www.unmc.edu/mmi/about/annual-rpt//2020.pdf). MMI is a federally designated University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) and Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) program.

This full-time, 12-month academic track position boasts a competitive salary and benefits package commensurate to experience and/or academic rank. The selected candidate is expected to lead and manage a team of 2 faculty members and 28 clinical SLPs that work across multiple levels of care, across multiple locations in Nebraska, and in a variety of multidisciplinary practice settings. Specifically, the MMI SLP Department provides outpatient services across the lifespan across 5 locations in 3 cities and also contracts with our partner, Nebraska Medicine, to provide acute care speech-language pathology services. The Director of SLP leads the RiteCare Clinics across the state, supports integrative and collaborative work with MMI Pediatric Feeding Disorders and the Integrated Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders (iCASD), and has the potential to be involved in clinical expansion of autism services for toddlers across the state. The Director also supports development and expansion of clinical research in the SLP Department as well as new and expanded clinical services, such as services for individuals with IDD across the lifespan. The Director is also responsible for participating in research in their area of expertise, supporting education and clinical training, and participating in community engagement.

Responsibilities broadly encompass:

Administration: Oversee department vision, staffing, quality improvement, contracts, and finances; support outpatient staff supervision and development; manage the Nebraska RiteCare clinics; work collaboratively across all departments at MMI and UNMC.

Clinical: Provide diagnosis and treatment to individuals in the outpatient care setting with speech, language, voice, cognitive-linguistic, or swallowing disorders; complete accurate records of evaluation and treatment; develop clinical service programs, establish department and community partnerships, and provide oversight of programs/partnerships.

Education: Develop and instruct graduate and/or post-graduate students; develop and teach classes in Masters degree programs at MMI; provide lectures, workshops, and training opportunities in interdisciplinary settings, MMI programs, and community partners; present at local, regional or national conferences in areas relevant to expertise.

Research: Develop and maintain clinical research expertise within topics related to SLP services; pursue and secure extramural funding for research; develop and participate in interdisciplinary and intercampus research, program development, and training; supervise postdoctoral and/or graduate student research projects.

Required Qualifications:
Doctoral degree in Speech-Language Pathology or related area (Strong ABD candidate considered); licensure or license eligibility to practice speech-language pathology in the state of Nebraska; Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA); Minimum three years of experience in the provision of SLP services.

Individuals from diverse populations are encouraged to apply.
