The Department of Psychology and Sociology at the University of North Alabama invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position with a specialization in clinical psychology and/or developmental psychology, beginning in August 2023. The ideal candidate will have a clinical and/or developmental psychology background, is committed to and has a record of exemplary teaching at the undergraduate level, and can demonstrate commitment to and record of academic research with undergraduate students. The successful applicant will contribute to the departmental curriculum by teaching courses in general psychology, developmental psychology, and/or abnormal psychology. Instruction in advanced courses in their area of expertise is also encouraged. Experience in online teaching or a willingness to learn how to develop and teach online courses is required. Standard teaching load is twelve (12) credit hours per semester (traditional and online). Additional duties will include academic advisement of students, advising and mentoring student organizations, and involvement with professional psychology organizations. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in psychology or a related field from an accredited university (ABD will be considered). Initial review of applications will begin on February 22, 2023 and continue until the position is filled. 

Primary responsibilities include teaching lower- and upper-level undergraduate psychology courses (12 hours), research and scholarly activity including supervision of undergraduate research projects, and university and community service. Additional duties will include academic advisement of students, advising and mentoring student organizations, and involvement with professional psychology organizations.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include: excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to establish an active undergraduate research program; demonstrated promise as an advisor and mentor to undergraduate students;  and dedication to collegiality, inclusiveness, and diversity.

A Ph.D. in psychology or a related field from an accredited university is required.  Candidates with ABD status may also be considered, provided that doctoral degree requirements are met by the time of appointment.  Preferred qualifications include teaching experience at the undergraduate level and experience in or willingness to teach online.
