The College of Education at North Carolina A&T State University seeks an innovative and visionary leader to serve as the Shirley Frye Distinguished Professor of Urban Education. The faculty member in this distinguished role will teach classes in the College of Education, advise graduate students, and provide visionary leadership for the establishment of the Center of Excellence for Educational Equity Research.

The mission of the forthcoming Center of Excellence for Educational Equity Research is to advance research to inform educational policies and practices for greater equity in K-12 and Higher Education contexts. The Center research and professional learning programming will also inform teaching, leadership, and counseling practices to create anti-racist and culturally sustaining learning environments for all learners. Key objectives of the center include:
  • Establishing N.C. A&T as a national leader in educational equity research centered on African Americans along K-12 and Higher Education landscapes.
  • Conducting Culturally Responsive research on educational equity that acknowledges multiple epistemologies and ways of knowing.
  • Disseminating research findings, data, and evidence to multiple stakeholders to impact policies and practices for greater equity and justice.
  • Engaging education stakeholders in critical conversations and actions in support of equity in education through roundtables, public forums, and conferences.

The successful candidate will produce scholarly publications, procure external funding, engage with community partners and stakeholders, lead an education equity research center, and exemplify the initiative, integrity, and service befitting the honored recognition associated with this endowed appointment. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, fundraising, faculty mentoring, and service to the department, college and university.The position is an 11 month tenure track appointment, with the opportunity for academic rank of Associate or Full Professor. The Distinguished Professorship is a renewable three-year appointment.
