Associate Vice President - Operational Effectiveness (Finance)

JOB SUMMARY
The Associate Vice President, Operational Effectiveness for Finance (AVPF) provides direct support to the Vice President for Finance in ensuring that the finance and accounting team provides high value services and supports to Northeastern stakeholders both in Boston and across University's broader Global University System. The AVPF will be a strategic partner with the Northeastern Senior Leadership Team and finance division leadership to support the achievement of Northeastern's strategic objectives. The AVP will be responsible for designing and implementing scalable business processes and associated metrics to enable the delivery of high-quality Finance related services to the Northeastern community and for leading analysis and strategic projects. The ideal candidate for this position will be a strong project manager with a proven track record in navigating complex, multi-level challenges, an ability to cultivate myriad stakeholder relationships and an appetite for leading fast paced change.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
At least 8 years of relevant, progressive professional work experience and a Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
- Supervisory experience required.
- Proven track record of effective leadership and ability to
navigate complex issues and drive strong performance results in a
fast paced, distributed environment.
- Strong analytical and systems thinking necessary to interpret
data to inform goals and strategy, as well as build and strengthen
infrastructure.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's Degree, CPA or equivalent experience in accounting or
related field. Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading
knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of
regulation/policy changes and trends in higher education.
- Previous experience in delivering Mergers & Acquisition
engagements across all of phases of the M&A lifecycle including
due-diligence, pre-close, and post-merger integration.
- Demonstrated knowledge of financial systems such as Workday,
Banner, general accounting principles, spreadsheet application
(i.e., Microsoft Excel), word processing (i.e., Microsoft Word),
cost reporting, budget forecasts and analysis, and preparation of
budget reports. Working knowledge of budgeting and accounting
within a university environment.
- Ability to manage myriad relationships, facilitate
collaboration across functional departments, and provide counsel to
senior leaders.
- Aptitude for strategic thinking with an understanding of the
impact that different approaches have on team and organizational
culture and performance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Manage and lead key strategic projects in collaboration with
the Vice President for finance and other finance division
leadership to support Northeastern's organization priority
initiatives. Project manage cross-functional work, especially those
requiring rapid-response or other issues resolution; develop
project plans and support decisions with data analysis.
- Lead the review and transformation of financial processes and
systems to support global activity within the Network University
System. Provide overall leadership and subject matter expertise in
the implementation of the Finance business processes such as
budgets, business asset tracking, capital projects, cash
management, grant management, and procurement.
- Provide strategic direction to Finance technology ecosystem
including ensuring successful execution of the multi-year, phased
finance transformation project. Collaborate with finance internal
consulting, Information Technology Services (ITS) and subject
matter experts to ensure all key financial processes and reporting
needs are built into the systems in a way that can be entered,
updated, and administered efficiently by end-users.
- Provide analytics support to finance departments in developing
and tracking key performance indicators and modeling the financial
structures needed to support Northeastern's growth. Collaborate
with the Office of Financial Planning, Strategy and Analytics on
analysis of strategic initiatives. Findings will be presented to
Northeastern University Senior Leadership to guide decision making
processes.
- Lead cross functional operating teams evaluating and
implementing integration for new mergers or acquisitions.
- Lead ad-hoc projects in areas such as capital structures,
finance function integration, accounting, tax, treasury, and
finance information technology to meet organizational goals.
- Actively cultivate cooperative and productive relationships
with key constituents across the University. Manage consulting
relationships, as needed.
