About the Opportunity
JOB SUMMARY
The Business Intelligence Data Engineer will be a dedicated member of the Business Intelligence & Analytics team responsible for ongoing growth and development of the University's bi-modal Snowflake cloud data platform and enterprise data warehouse capabilities. Primary responsibilities include the design, development, and maintenance of complex data pipelines into the University's cloud data ecosystem in support of academic and administrative needs. In close collaboration with members of the BI & Analytics team and subject matter experts, the candidate will also be expected to design and build data-focused artifacts consistent with architecture standards and business units needs to satisfy functional requirements. Additionally, the Business Intelligence Data Engineer will participate in the ongoing activities that enable and support the cloud data platform infrastructure in areas such as DevOps, data platform system administration & configuration, security, and standards & best practices.
This position provides essential services to the university community and may require work outside regular working hours and on some university holidays. This is a remote position that does not require work on site.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum two years of Data Engineering experience with
Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services and Mass Ingestion
functionality
- Minimum two years of Snowflake Cloud Data Platform experience
including demonstrated expertise with advanced Snowflake data
management capabilities. Snowflake certifications
preferred.
- Minimum two years of experience implementing and monitoring
complex data pipelines and automation of cloud-based
workloads
- Proficiency in one or more scripting languages and/or
programming languages, preferably Python
- Advanced SQL knowledge and experience working with relational
databases
- Demonstrated experience of developing and implementing
Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD)
systems
- Proficiency in systems analysis, design, and a solid grasp of
development, quality assurance, and integration
methodologies
- Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills
- Knowledge and skills required for this position are normally
obtained through a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science,
Information Systems, Engineering, and at least two years of
experience of related experience.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES
1) Data Pipeline Development & Maintenance
Assist in designing and automating scalable data integration solutions between institutional data sources using Informatica IICS and Snowflake Cloud Data Platform. Assure performance and reliability of integration processes through monitoring, performance analysis and development of automated alerting processes. Participate in end-to-end delivery of technical projects involving design and development of data pipelines for complex datasets. Work closely with business partners to design and manage data pipeline elements including load frequency, data delivery mechanisms, and transformations. Ensure that data pipeline solutions align with industry best practices and adhere to documented security guidelines. Develop and maintain detailed technical documentation of data pipeline processes. Collaborate with key stakeholders including enterprise data architect, data modelers, data stewards, and subject matter experts (SMEs).
2) Data Modeling
Design and implement data models that support reporting and analytic needs specified. This may require close collaboration with technical team members as well as end users and subject matter experts. Provide leadership in the areas of data modeling techniques that consider standards and best practices. Utilize appropriate tooling and methodologies that promote scalability, extensibility, and reuse.
3) System Administration
Assist IICS & Snowflake Cloud Data Platform service owners with system administration and configuration activities. Create and administer user accounts. Participate in the expansion of the cloud data platform role-based security models. Configure cloud data platform functional settings such as compute and storage parameters. Advise on cloud data platform architecture configuration and growth.
4) DevOps
Follow documented DevOps best practices and standards using approved tooling. Administer and support existing DevOps processes and provide expertise to members of the BI & Analytics team. Participate in the evolution of DevOps capabilities by proactively identifying opportunities for process and supporting tool improvement.
