About the Opportunity

About Northeastern

Founded in 1898, Northeastern is a global research university and the recognized leader in experience-driven lifelong learning. Our world-renowned experiential approach empowers our students, faculty, alumni, and partners to create impact far beyond the confines of discipline, degree, and campus.

Our locations—in Boston; Arlington, Charlotte, North Carolina; London; Portland, Maine; Oakland; San Francisco; Seattle; Silicon Valley; Toronto; Vancouver; and the Massachusetts communities of Burlington and Nahant—are nodes in our growing global university system. Through this network, we expand opportunities for flexible, student-centered learning and collaborative, solutions-focused research.

Northeastern's comprehensive array of undergraduate and graduate programs— in a variety of on-campus and online formats—lead to degrees through the doctorate in nine colleges and schools. Among these, we offer more than 195 multi-discipline majors and degrees designed to prepare students for purposeful lives and careers.

The Bouve College of Health Sciences has over 200 faculty members, with approximately 2,000 undergraduate and 2,400 graduate students. It is the leading national model for education and research in the health, psychosocial and biomedical sciences and supports the University's mission of educating students for a life of fulfillment and accomplishment and creating and translating knowledge to meet global and societal needs.

The cornerstone of the Department of Physical Therapy, Movement, and Rehabilitation Sciences is experiential learning aligned with the mission of Bouve College and Northeastern University's Academic plan. With over 30 faculty members, the Department's vision is to lead through innovation, education, and research in human movement and rehabilitation sciences. We do this to advance health, human movement, and rehabilitation sciences through interprofessional and experiential education, research, and practice within a dynamic global society. The Department is housed within the School of Clinical and Rehabilitation Sciences within the Bouve College of Health Sciences at Northeastern University.

About the Opportunity

The Department invites applicants for an open-rank, non-tenure track position as a Teaching/Clinical Professor and the Director of the Physical Therapy, Movement, and Rehabilitation Sciences Masters in Rehabilitation Science program, starting between late Summer 2022 and Fall 2022. The Department has expanded its graduate programs in Human Movement and Rehabilitation Sciences with degree programs at the Bachelors (minor), Masters (MS), and Doctoral (PhD) levels. The applicant will be integral to expanding the MS program. At Northeastern University, we embrace a culture of respect, where each person is valued for their contribution and is treated fairly. We oppose all forms of racism. We support a culture that does not tolerate any form of discrimination and where each person may belong. We strive to have a diverse membership, one where each person is trained and mentored to promote their success.

Responsibilities

Teaching and program directorship are the primary responsibilities composing a large majority of the hired candidate's workload. As the director of the Masters of Science (MS) program, the hired candidate will be responsible for MS program administration. This includes marketing and recruiting students into the program (in collaboration with the college office of graduate advising); providing students and their faculty advisors information on the requirements for the program; tracking the matriculation of students through the program; updating and maintaining the program curriculum; conducting periodic evaluation of the programs; and tracking outcomes of graduates.

The hired candidate will also be responsible for teaching courses in biomechanics, kinesiology, research methods, technology, and other related content. The hired candidate will also have the general responsibilities of teaching faculty in the department, including overall scholarship development and providing service to the profession, the University, its colleges, and departments.

Qualified candidates must have expertise in, or a demonstrated commitment to, working with diverse student populations and/or in a culturally diverse work and educational environment.

Qualifications

Candidates must have an academic terminal degree (PhD, ScD, or EdD) in Rehabilitation Science, Kinesiology, Biomechanics, Bioengineering, Neuroscience, Physical Therapy, or in a related transdisciplinary field by the appointment start date.
