Senior Campaign and Volunteer Relations Officer

Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Senior Campaign and Volunteer Relations Officer at its Detroit campus location.

Essential functions (job duties):

Manage leadership volunteer initiatives to enhance campaign fundraising results, including the coordination and oversight of campaign committee activities. Assist in building and maintaining a robust and sustainable volunteer base; plan and oversee campaign committee meetings and provide support for campaign events. Support the planning, execution and management of the university’s comprehensive campaign. This position reports to the Campaign Director.

Manage leadership volunteer initiatives to enhance campaign fundraising results, including the coordination and oversight of campaign committee activities. Collaborate with the Vice President, AVP Principal Giving and the Campaign Director on volunteer strategies and assist in building and maintaining a robust and sustainable volunteer base.

Support the planning, execution and management of the university’s comprehensive campaign. Share responsibility for the coordination of signature campaign events, including the public launch and campaign conclusion. Update campaign plan as needed and ensure established timelines are met in a strategic manner.

Work with division colleagues to coordinate volunteer participation strategies for schools, colleges and units. Align volunteer strategies, communications and programming with divisional and campaign goals.

Serve as liaison to university campaign committees. Oversee volunteer events, plan and execute campaign committee meetings, take minutes, send status reports and provide follow-up as needed.

Track relationships with industry leaders, corporate executives and major donor volunteers while working with university leadership to ensure best practices are implemented for successful volunteer engagement. Generate affinity, loyalty and enthusiasm for Wayne State University and the university’s comprehensive campaign.

Prepare project and event budgets. Monitor expenditures to ensure compliance with university policy and procedures.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education Bachelor's degree
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in marketing, public relations, business administration, communications or related field.

Experience Specialist (minimum 5 years of job-related experience)
Minimum of five (5) years’ experience working in volunteer management, alumni relations, fundraising, event planning, or related field. Experience with project management and constituent engagement preferred.
Experience in a higher education or non-profit environment preferred. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
COMMUNICATIONS SKILLS: Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and professionally both orally and in writing. Strong interpersonal skills are a must. Ability to work successfully with persons from diverse backgrounds.

PLANNING AND ORGANIZATION: Ability to manage several projects simultaneously, prioritize and plan work activities while meeting respective deadlines. Strong organizational and time-management skills required. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a deadline-oriented environment.

ANALYTICAL AND PRESENTATION SKILLS: Ability to evaluate, interpret, and present complex information effectively in professionally prepared documents or presentations. Must possess a demonstrated attention to detail in order to achieve a high degree of accuracy.

TECHNICAL SKILLS: Proficient in the use of complex administrative systems software, preferably in the higher education environment. Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, especially Word, Excel and Teams. Ability to understand and translate complex concepts into lay terms.

LEARNING AGILITY: Independent and innovative self-starter who displays an ability to learn quickly and easily adapts to changing situations. Experience researching topics to gain knowledge and understanding when information gaps exist. Reasonable knowledge and understanding of university policies and procedures.

TEAMWORK: Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues within the division and other units to gain full understanding of the project and desired outcome; ability to produce high quality and consistent results with assistance of team members; provide support to teammates when tackling complex projects.
