The Department of Theater at Colgate University invites applications for a one-year visiting assistant professor position in Theater History and Theory, beginning fall semester 2023. There is a possibility of renewal for one or two additional years, contingent on department needs and successful teaching in the first year. Completion of a terminal degree (Ph.D. or D.F.A.) is required prior to or shortly after the date of hire. The field of specialization is open, and versatile candidates with the ability to cover a wide variety of historical periods and geographical areas in their teaching are especially encouraged to apply. The teaching assignment of five courses per year includes a two-semester course sequence in theater history, required of all theater majors, as well as the opportunity to teach one or more advanced courses in the candidate’s field(s) of specialization. The successful candidate may be expected to participate in all-university programs, including the Liberal Arts Core Curriculum.
