Position Purpose: The Associate Dean of Nursing promotes the
mission, values, and vision of Aurora University. The position is
responsible to champion the interests of AU students, faculty,
staff, and alumni as well as the welfare of the institution as a
whole. Reporting to the Dean of the School of Nursing, the
Associate Dean of Nursing supports the dean in providing leadership
and administrative oversight to the nursing program within the
university's academic structure. The Associate Dean of Nursing has
faculty status and rank, and is understood to have underlying a
faculty appointment, unless otherwise specified in a letter of
appointment. The Associate Dean of Nursing is a 12-month faculty
appointment.

Essential Job Functions:
Develops and implements an annual unit-operating plan that is
consistent with the strategic plan of the university as a whole.
Prepares and disseminates an annual report documenting the
operating plan.
Convenes regular meetings as needed.
Encourages faculty and staff engagement in the life of the
university community.
Ensures achievement of enrollment, advancement, and budget
targets.
Provides support for the School of Nursing's accreditation
processes as directed by the dean.
Works with the dean to develop and manage the unit's annual
operating budget for the School of Nursing. Expends restricted
resources allocated to the School of Nursing in a fair and
appropriate manner.
Assumes responsibility for the supervision of facilities,
equipment, and supplies for the school, program, or function.
Collaborates with Admissions to recruit students to the nursing
programs.
Collaborates with colleagues and the Dean of the School of
Nursing to develop and maintain a high-quality curriculum at both
the graduate and undergraduate levels.
Ensures that catalog and web copy are accurate and
engaging.
Collaborates with the Dean of the School of Nursing and the
chairs/directors of the programs to ensure proper academic support
services and advising are provided to students.
Collaborates with colleagues in the registrar's office,
bookstore, and library to ensure that all responsibilities and
deadlines are satisfied appropriately.
Collects and reviews course syllabi to ensure they are
complete, consistent, and compliant with university policies and
guidelines, AACN Essentials, and CCNE requirements.
Oversees all aspects of practicum experiences within the School
of Nursing.
Oversees program reviews and assessment activities.
Collaborates with the Dean of the School of Nursing to recruit
qualified faculty to serve in the nursing program.
Collaborates with colleagues and supervisors to orient and
mentor faculty/staff who demonstrate the potential necessary to
succeed in all aspects of their work at Aurora University.
Manages faculty teaching loads and service responsibilities to
ensure equitable and efficient operation of the unit.
Performs effectively all duties detailed in the annual
performance evaluation processes for faculty and staff.
Recruits, hires, develops, and evaluates part-time
faculty.
Participates actively in faculty development
programs/activities.
In collaboration with the dean, assigns faculty workload.
Completes the annual performance review (APR) process with
faculty designated by the dean.
Coordinates all aspects of the School of Nursing's learning
outcomes assessment program.
Ensures that students engaged in the School of Nursing have
multiple opportunities to learn about internships, scholarships,
graduate/professional schools, and career opportunities in their
selected areas of interest.
Oversees the collaboration of outside offices to support
student success, including the Wackerlin Center for Faith and
Action, the Crouse Center for Student Advising, the Student Success
Center, the Disability Resource Office, etc.
Advocates for members of various constituency groups and
mediates conflicts as appropriate.
Works collaboratively with colleagues across the university to
address student concerns and behaviors.
Monitors and supports students' academic programs.
Essential Job Requirements:
Education:
- Possesses an unencumbered Illinois Registered Nurse license, an
earned master's degree in nursing, and a doctoral degree in nursing
or a related field.
Experience:
- Successful leadership experience in an academic setting: an
understanding of and skill at curriculum development and program
evaluation; excellent teaching skills.
Skills:
- Strong leadership, communication (written and verbal), teamwork
and collaboration, and conflict resolution skills are
essential.
Special Requirements:
- The School of Nursing Associate Dean of Nursing possesses
outstanding teaching, scholarship, and service records. The
individual in the position possesses a faculty rank at the level of
Associate Professor or higher; evidence of strong commitments to
the university's mission, values, and vision; conducts all
activities according to established AU policies and procedures. The
Associate Dean of Nursing is reviewed by the dean annually.
