ADMINISTRATION OF JUSTICE INSTRUCTOR

Position Description:
POSITION SUMMARY

This faculty position is a full-time, 100% FTE (10 Months) Tenure Track position as Instructor of Administration of Justice in the Division Division of Social Science, Humanities, Arts, Physical Education and Athletics located at Evergreen Valley College.

Assignment may include day and evening responsibilities.

This position is represented by the San Jose/Evergreen Federation of Teachers, AFT 6157.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Demonstrate commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Anti-Racism by actively contributing to an inclusive environment, supporting all people of diverse backgrounds including race, ethnicity, age, nation of origin, gender identity, sexual orientation, and physical ability.

2. Maintain currency in the field of Administration of Justice, including, but not limited, changes in legal codes and policing practices .

3. Teach courses in assigned discipline by communicating subject matter clearly and effectively.

4. Adapt methodologies for students with special needs and different learning styles.

5. Demonstrate commitment to professional development, including but not limited to activities such as: participation in professional conferences, workshops, seminars, membership in professional organizations, research projects, publishing academic work, participation in statewide committees or organizations, etc.

6. Demonstrate sensitivity in working with students and staff of diverse racial, ethnic, academic and socio economic backgrounds, sexual orientation, and disabilities by showing respect for differences and the dignity of others.

7. Participate in faculty responsibilities such as: course and curriculum development and review, student learning outcomes and assessment, program review, committees, research and special projects as needed in the discipline/department or district.

8. Attend and participate in department, division and college meetings and keep posted office hours.

9. Meet record keeping obligations on time, e.g. grades, census, reports, rosters, textbook orders, and requisitions.

10. Maintain and provide current course syllabi as required by California Education Code and Board policy.

11. Foster a professional work and learning environment.

12. Perform other duties as required by the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Required Qualifications:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Any Bachelor’s degree or higher and two years of professional experience related to the discipline

OR

Any Associate’s degree and six years of professional experience related to the discipline

OR

*The Equivalent

Desired Qualifications:
Desired Qualifications:

1. Experience teaching Administration of Justice courses at the community college level or experience teaching in a professional environment associated with the discipline (basic police academy, in-service public safety classes, or another related experience).

2. Experience teaching online, using Canvas or a similar LMS, and a desire to maintain currency in online training.

3. Experience developing curriculum in Administration of Justice.

4. Experience working in the public sector (police department, district attorney, public defender’s office, probation, corrections, the Court System, law office, or something similar).

5. Knowledge of the criminal justice system, including law enforcement, the courts, corrections, and/or a related special expertise in this discipline.

6. A strong understanding of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Anti-Racism and a willingness to incorporate these core values into teaching Administration of Justice courses (cultural intelligence, background, or related experiences).

7. Bilingual abilities, desirable.

    Salary Range:
    $84,220 to $115,609 Entry Level Annual Salary (Academic Salary Schedule 2022-2023); Maximum Salary Potential $150,001. Note: Actual Salary placement is based on candidate's verified education and experience.
