Description
The University of Mary Hardin Baylor's College of Humanities and Sciences seeks qualified faculty for its Communication and Media Studies Department, beginning in late July of 2023, with initial appointment at the rank of Instructor (non-tenure track). UMHB seeks faculty who are active Christians and dedicated teacher-scholars to prepare students for leadership, service, and faith-informed discernment in a global society.
The Communication and Media Studies Department offers three undergraduate degree programs that include Speech Communication, Mass Communication, and Film Studies.
UMHB is conveniently located in Belton, an historic town of 22,000 in the heart of central Texas. Nearby cities are Temple (7 miles), Waco (42 miles), Austin (60 miles), San Antonio (130 miles) and Dallas/Ft. Worth (130 miles). Excellent schools, abundant cultural and recreational opportunities, and a high quality of life are hallmarks of the local community.
Faculty Responsibilities:
Activities required of all faculty include exemplary teaching, curriculum development, student recruitment and advising, professional attainment; and service to department, college, university, and the community.
Specific Responsibilities:
Teach undergraduate courses in Public Speaking. Instructor teaching load is typically 15 hours each semester, yet the successful candidate will receive a course release each semester in order to coach Speech Cru, the nationally award-winning competitive speech team at UMHB.
Qualifications:
- A completed Master's Degree in Communication or Speech and past
experience with forensics/competitive speech activities are
required.
- A doctorate in the discipline is preferred.
- Excellent teaching and communication skills, a dedication to
professional attainment, and commitment to quality improvement are
essential.
- Must be an active, and committed Christian.
