Nancy Thompson Learning Commons

Director of Learning Support Services

Under the direction of the Executive Director of the Nancy Thompson Learning Commons (NTLC), the Director of Learning Support Services (Director 4) organizes, plans and directs the delivery of learning support services programs (tutoring, academic coaching, etc.) and their interface with the campus community. The Director provides visionary leadership to guide the NTLC in its ongoing transformation through dynamic changes in all aspects of learning support services and their connectivity to research and scholarly works. The Director will create and manage an increasingly networked, interactive and collaborative environment in which student learning support services are provided anytime and anywhere, and not simply just remediation or skill sets development. The Director will continuously evaluate, engage the broader Kean University Community and external partners to meet the evolving needs of the NTLC mission at a world-class campus in a global learning environment that ensures equity, access and academic excellence through data driven decision-making. These include changes in the way student learning is acquired, delivered, consumed, shared and reconstituted among KU students, faculty, and staff for educational, research and professional development purposes.

The Director manages day-to-day activities; participates in the development of goals, policies and procedures with the Executive Director and other office staff; and completes related work as required or assigned. The Director works closely with the other Director of Learning Support Services (writing, public speaking, etc.) to support the mission of Kean University and NTLC. The Director is responsible for the supervision of assigned staff, including their data-driven assessment, hiring and evaluation.

This employee also works collaboratively with our additional location Wenzhou-Kean University, in China. This position requires occasional travel to and assignments of work at other locations.

Qualifications: Master’s degree in a related field from an accredited college and two years of professional experience in a research, educational and/or learning commons setting with advanced understanding of digital and face-to-face delivery of services and best practices to support services and student engagement is required.
