Notre Dame of Maryland University is seeking to hire an Academic Advisor to work half-time in our School of Education. This position serves as the academic advisor for School of Education Early Childhood Education students enrolled in initial and advanced educator preparation programs; provides initial program guidance at matriculation and ongoing academic advising and support through to program completion and/or graduation. This is a grant-funded position for 18 months.

Essential functions will include but are not limited to:

  1. Serves as advisor for Early Childhood Education students in initial and advanced certification programs from entry to completion. Assists students with coursework selection, course registration, edTPA, and Praxis testing required for certification.
  2. Collaborates with Clinical Field Experience Director to ensure appropriate internship placement for advisees.
  3. Oversees advisee program plans and assumes responsibility for subsequent analysis to document individual student performance as well as program accomplishment in compliance with requirement of accrediting agencies.
  4. Participates in the revision of handbooks; organizes and maintains office records, files, statistics and confidential information; and works on partnership agreements and plans of study for cohort partnerships.
  5. Holds individual informational and admissions interviews pertaining to SOE programs; participates in group information sessions scheduled by Enrollment Management and the School of Education.
  6. Conducts transcript analysis of student records at matriculation, mid-point, and exit to assure compliance with Maryland State Department of Education and CAEP requirements for program approval and teacher licensing.

 

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge:  Master's in Early Childhood Education or related field required.
  • Experience: 2 years' experience in a field of education, teaching and administration experience is preferred. 
  • Skills/Aptitude: Strong interpersonal skills, experience in interviewing, data analysis and excellent computer skills required. Strong decision-making skills, the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficiency in organizational and time management skills, teamwork, and confidentiality.  Adept with general office equipment, Microsoft Office and database management.
  • Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Some evening and weekend hours will be required to meet with prospective students and teacher candidates, and to attend information sessions.  May require day travel to satellite locations in Maryland. This is a grant-funded 18-month, 20-hour per week position.
