The African American Studies Program at Florida State University invites applications for a permanent 9-month, non-tenure track Specialized Teaching Faculty I position, effective August 2023. We are looking for a scholar with a passion for teaching and the ability to help us expand our department’s course offerings in exciting new ways. Successful candidates will be expected to teach lower and upper division undergraduate courses.  We are open to a broad range of research specializations that center the Black experience. Preference will be given to candidates who can contribute courses to one or more of the following broad areas: African diaspora studies, inequality and social justice, memory and history, theories of racism and oppression, research methods, school inequalities, the criminal justice system, and applied skills. In addition to undergraduate teaching and mentoring, the position will entail service to the African American Studies Program through curriculum development, participation in committees, and the provision of leadership for program activities and some student clubs (e.g., Student outreach, Ankh Maat Wedjau Honor Society, AFA internship program, etc.). 

 Basic Minimum Qualifications: completion of all Ph.D. requirements except the dissertation at the time of application. Additional Qualifications: completion of all Ph.D. requirements by the date of hire.
