The compensation for this appointment will range from $44.00 to $49.00 hourly and reflects what California Baptist University reasonably expects to pay for this staff appointment. Actual compensation may vary based on the qualifications and experience of the applicant, as well as market conditions. In addition to wages, CBU offers a robust suite of employee benefits.

Position Summary Information

Summary

Provides in-person individual and group supervision for trainee and associate Counselors and general clinical support in fulfillment of the vision, mission, values, goals, and strategic initiatives of the California Baptist University Counseling Center. Assures compliance with the Board of Behavioral Sciences ( BBS ) to meet professional standards regarding the operation of the Counseling Center, as well as compliance and partnership with Student Services personnel and University Administration.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, under the direction of the Counseling Center Director and Assistant Director. Other duties may be assigned.
  1. Embrace and actively demonstrate Christ-centered, biblically based, psychologically sound therapy.
  2. Maintain a clinical supervision caseload of trainee and associate counselors in both individual and group in-person settings.
  3. Conduct ongoing auditing of clinical notes of trainee and associate counselors to ensure all clinician documentation is in compliance with the standards set by the BBS .
  4. Conduct observation videos and written performance evaluations on all assigned supervisees.
  5. Assist in the development of systems to ensure the psychological/spiritual needs of the student body are being met.
  6. Provide input regarding the initial planning and implementation of mental health awareness programs and events.
  7. Assist the Director and Assistant Director in interacting with University officials to identify and follow up with students who may be experiencing emotional or psychological difficulties.
  8. Assist with assessment of and/or intervention with students exhibiting emotional or psychological difficulties.
  9. Be available to provide supervisory assistance for the CBUCC after-hours line as well as the general campus crisis support team line.
  10. Assist the Director Assistant Director or Campus Mental Health Director in mental health training for staff and faculty as requested.
  11. Assist the Director and Assistant Director in initial coordination and supervisory oversight of in-patient/out-patient services for student clients and their treating therapist.
  12. Keep current and compliant with laws and ethical standards with the Board of Behavioral Sciences to meet professional standards regarding the clinical operations of the Counseling Center.
  13. Keep current and compliant on laws and ethical standards affecting Counseling Center administrative operations and staffing.
  14. Attend all Counseling Center staff meetings.
  15. Assist in writing and maintaining procedure manuals for clinicians.
  16. Assist in the continued development and maintenance of relationships with mental health professionals for the purpose of referrals and consultation as needed by the CBU community.
  17. Assist in serving as a liaison to all University departments.


Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Other Knowledge Skills and Abilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Knowledge of California state law regarding the practice of psychotherapy.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule which includes nights and weekends.
  • Ability to assist the Director in administrative and procedural decisions and judgments on sensitive, confidential issues.
  • Ability to plan, develop, and coordinate multiple projects.
  • Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information.
  • Ability to assist the Director in consultations and training of staff, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
  • Accomplished in teaching and training.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
  • Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions and judgments on sensitive, confidential issues.
  • A thorough knowledge of Business English and arithmetic, general office methods, procedures, and practices.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with campus departments to accomplish programmatic and educational goals for the Counseling Center.
  • Knowledge of standard budgeting and expenditure control procedures and documentation.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to assist the Director in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.
Education and/or Experience

Master’s degree (M.A.) or equivalent; or four to ten years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Current, unrestricted Licensure as a Psychologist, Marriage Family Therapist, Professional Clinical Counselor and/or Social Worker in the State of California. At least 2 years as a licensed psychotherapist.
