Duties and Responsibilities
Oversee a certificate program in substance abuse and addiction counseling to include the delivery of certificate courses and required practicums, student outreach, and maintenance of certificate compliance with Hawaii State licensure requirements.  Primarily a teaching institution, the successful candidate will offer courses in introductory psychology, counseling skills, statistical analysis, research methods, supervise senior capstone projects, and other courses as necessary to meet changing needs of the program; participation in program assessment and academic advising. Teaching assignments primarily involve courses delivered through online and hybrid instructional modalities. Instructional faculty are also expected to conduct research or applied scholarship in the discipline, participate in service activities and faculty governance.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. PhD in Counseling or Clinical Psychology from an APA and regionally accredited college or university.
  2. Experience teaching counseling-related courses in psychology.
  3. Experience conducting research or providing services in the substance abuse field.
  4. Evidence of high quality teaching at the university level.
  5. Evidence of potential for conducting relevant scholarly or applied research.

Desirable Qualifications

  1. Ability to interact effectively in a multicultural/indigenous setting, community-based practicum coordination.
  2. Experience teaching online; experience with diverse student populations.
  3. Experience teaching with the Sakai/Laulima course management system.
  4. Ability to involve undergraduates in research experiences.
  5. Experience with student outreach or recruitment.
  6. Relevant published research.
