Florida International University (FIU) and the Steven J. Green School of International and Public Affairs (the Green School) seek a dynamic, visionary, and experienced leader to guide the school into a new era. The Green School educates the leaders and changemakers of tomorrow through innovative multidisciplinary teaching and research that advances global understanding, contributes to policy solutions, and promotes international dialogue. The new Dean will have an unwavering dedication to students and their success, a strong commitment to academic excellence and scholarship, a belief in and eagerness to promote shared governance, and the personal qualities of compassion and integrity. This is an exciting opportunity for a proven leader to build upon the last 15 years of the Green School’s growth and success and lead the school into an ambitious new era.

The Green School is one of the world’s largest schools of public and international affairs, enrolling more than 5,200 undergraduate and graduate students and employing over 250 faculty. With an annual budget of over $45 million, the Green School offers 38 degree programs at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels, and 54 certificate programs. Since 2009, the school has raised more than $63 million in philanthropic dollars, over $12 million of which has gone to endowments, with an additional $3.8 million raised for faculty support and research preeminence and $18 million for student success, including financial aid for professional international affairs master’s students. The Green School is proud to be a member of the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs (APSIA), just one of 38 such schools worldwide, dedicated to improving professional education in international affairs.

Florida International University, one of the country’s largest and fastest-rising public research universities, is located in Miami, a multilingual, multinational crossroads of the Americas and a hotspot for innovation and creation. Its mission-oriented approach, coupled with a purpose-driven faculty and staff and hard-working students, gives it an edge in addressing the challenges of a rapidly changing 21st-century educational environment. The outstanding diversity and quality of FIU’s students and faculty have driven the school's research and learning ethos. FIU is among the ten largest universities in the nation, enrolling more than 55,000 students. The university has graduated more than 280,000 alumni, 165,000 of whom live and work in South Florida, making it one of South Florida’s premier anchor institutions. FIU is well positioned to expand its reach and impact thanks to over $240 million in annual research expenditures, strong legislative support, leading preeminent programs, a robust e-learning capability, and a private fundraising campaign that has raised millions of dollars in support from the community.

FIU and The Green School seek a proven leader with a vision to guide the school into a new era. The incoming Dean of the Green School will have a terminal degree, a distinguished record of scholarship, experience commensurate with leading an APSIA-designated school, and will be appointable to the rank of full professor (with tenure) within a department of the Green School. The incoming Dean will lead exceptional faculty from a range of disciplines, support talented undergraduate and graduate students, manage substantial human and economic resources, build affinity, and foster the university’s commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive community. The Green School is committed to building on its highly successful foundation, and the incoming Dean will work to train leaders who will confront current and future world challenges. The Dean will lead the faculty and students in interdisciplinary research and training, driven by the desire to impact the region, the state, the country, and the world. It is desirable for the Dean to have experience in public policy, diplomacy, and/or foreign affairs.
