Position Summary

The Assistant Dean collaborates with the UGE senior staff in the development and implementation of new global learning programs primarily for undergraduates, while also enhancing a portfolio of existing programs and respective advising caseload.      

Responsibilities

Strategic Initiatives and Special Programs

  • Leads and manages team initiatives to enhance the global learning framework that supports the Columbia-Led programs in areas such as outreach and recruitment, admissions and enrollment management, safety and risk management, assessment, and student advising to assure that policies and practices are accessible and inclusive.
  • Creates, pilots, deploys, and maintains a comprehensive cohesive 360 global learning continuum including pre-departure, preparation, re-entry, and reflection for different program modalities.
  • Develops long-term strategy and implementation of the Global Learning Scholarship Program, including application, acceptance, awards, and budget
  • Researches, identifies, and implements new global learning opportunities that are sustainable, respond to student demand, represent geographic diversity, explore program modalities, and leverage faculty connections/interests and Columbia’s networks and resources  
  • Develops and manages faculty outreach opportunities and initiatives

Advising and Program Management

  • Acts as the primary contact for students, faculty, and other stakeholders for a portfolio of programs.
  • Develops and delivers a full-range of information, advising, and support to applicants and students, from Columbia and non-Columbia schools.
  • Collaborates with relevant parties to resolve student issues during all phases of participation including pre departure, while onsite, and upon return.
  • Works closely with the program directors to coordinate all aspects of the programs such as development and planning, updating program budgets, negotiating partner agreements. student outreach and recruitment, and admissions and enrollment management.
  • Continually assesses programs to assure quality experiences that meet enrollment and financial targets. Develop plans for program sustainability and innovation.
  • Cultivates relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders such as faculty, academic departments, and partners to understand current trends and to identify new opportunities. 
  • Participates in the support of and response to health, safety, and risk management issues that may arise with individual students or that may affect a program.
  • Understands and aligns Columbia policies and procedures with the best practices of the global education community.
  • Directs relevant program consortium boards or faculty committees including ongoing communications, follow up, and board/committee meeting planning and preparations.
  • Travels to Columbia program sites and partner programs to strengthen working relationships and identify new opportunities.

Collaboration and Teamwork

  • Represents UGE to internal and external constituents for ongoing and new program development opportunities.
  • Participates in working groups and committees relevant to the mission of UGE and the College.
  • Oversees advising activity
  • Supports all-staff meetings and professional development planning for UGE operation
  • Creates and leads professional development planning for the entire UGE operation.  Works with senior staff and respective teams to set team meeting agendas and all staff agendas.  Assigns working group and committee work with inter/intra office initiatives.  Works with supervisors and employees to ensure appropriate professional development opportunities for each member of the team and ensure budget alignment and alignment to the annual performance review process.  Directs the annual performance review process, serving as the main point of contact for supervisors and team members.

Perform other related duties as assigned
