POSITION DETAILS

The State University of New York, Brooklyn Educational Opportunity Center, provides tuition free academic and workforce development training to eligible New York State residents, providing a pathway to lifelong learning, college access and economic self-sufficiency.

Under supervision of the Director of Student Services, the Admissions Coordinator assists with outreach and recruitment, informs applicants about EOC programs and requirements, and assists applicants through the enrollment process.

DUTIES

The duties of the position include but are not limited to the following:

• Participate in community outreach and recruitment efforts to encourage applications to BEOC programs.

• Assist in conducting open house sessions, information sessions and orientations about admissions to BEOC.

• Meet with applicants in individual or group settings to ensure familiarity with program requirements and EOC policies and procedures.

• Respond to requests regarding information on programs.

• Review applications and determine applicant eligibility for EOC services and programs.

• Follow up on incomplete applications.

• Communicate enrollment decisions to applicants.

• Prepare activity reports and analyses.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Flexible schedule is required: day, evening and weekend hours may be assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Two years of relevant work experience serving a diverse student population and providing assistance to students who may have academic and life challenges.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills. Bilingual skills a plus.

• Detail-oriented, with organizational ability to handle multiple assignments and to meet established deadlines.

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and social media platforms.

• Strong customer service orientation is essential; able to work effectively with all levels of faculty, staff, students and external constituents.

• Knowledge of Banner student information system a plus.

Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.

Supports student enrollment activities and processing in an Educational Opportunity Center program.

-Provides direct student services and works collaboratively with other units to support registration, payment, and related activities

-Interprets and communicates policies and procedures related to registration, student records, and related issues.

-Prepares reports and surveys based on enrollment data

-Counsels students, staff and faculty on academic registration, admissions, and related activities

-Manages student information databases and resolves issues with student records and transactions

-Ensures compliance with college, Federal, and New York State regulations and policies

-May supervise clerical and/or part-time staff and coordinate work schedules

-Performs related duties as assigned.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Health Plan Coverage for Employees Hired on or after October 1, 2022 City of New York employees and employees of Participating Employers and their eligible dependents hired on or after October 1, 2022 will only be eligible to enroll in the EmblemHealth HIP HMO Preferred Plan and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment.

After 365 days of employment, the employee will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period. If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day.

Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Period. An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form to EmblemHealth. An employee, or eligible dependent, must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by EmblemHealth before the exemption is granted. The HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form and HIP service area are available on the EmblemHealth website.
