Purpose of Position

Reporting to the Director of Campus Recreation, the Assistant Director of Marketing is responsible for managing several key aspects of the Campus Recreation Center:
  • Responsible for directly managing the marketing and promotions for the Department of Campus Recreation.
    • Develop and lead the Campus Recreation Center’s ( CRC ) member recruitment, engagement, and retention strategies, both internal and external to the university.
    • Create, implement, and supervise departmental assessment data process for annual reporting.
  • Develop and supervise the Membership Services Coordinator and 15-20 student staff working in the Membership/Marketing area.
  • Serve on the Senior Leadership Team.
Primary Responsibilities

Marketing & Assessment
  • Responsible for developing, directing, and evaluating comprehensive marketing and promotion strategies for the department’s programs, facilities, events, and memberships.

  • Overseeing all marketing and promotional projects for the department, including updating and maintaining the Campus Rec website and apps, developing promotional materials and campaigns, designing and distributing the monthly newsletter, and managing digital signage in the facility.

  • Responsible for developing, directing, and evaluating comprehensive marketing campaigns to reach department revenue goals in membership sales, facility reservations, and sponsorships

  • Develop and lead the CRC’s member recruitment strategy, including new member marketing, promotions, trial membership, tours, orientations, surveys, events, and member referral programs.

  • Coordinate the member retention program, including member appreciation events, renewals, retention reward programs, and member exit surveys. Solicit and synthesize member feedback, and recommend and implement membership improvement efforts.

  • Manage sponsorship responsibilities by meeting or exceeding established membership revenue targets.

  • Collaborate with Institutional Research to accurately represent data tracking and reports.

  • Oversee national, regional, and departmental, collegiate recreation projects to obtain data on satisfaction, needs, and effectiveness of Campus Recreation facilities, programs, and services.

  • Create and execute Campus Recreation special events
Personnel Management
  • Direct supervision of the Membership Coordinator and marketing student employees.

  • Provide oversight, direction, leadership, and ongoing development and training to staff. Develop goals and objectives and complete Annual Performance Appraisals.
Serve on Senior Leadership Team
  • Support the Director with the department’s overall management, including strategic planning, personnel management, financial projections and planning, and department assessment.

  • Develop and cultivate collaborative working relationships with university departments, student groups, and community organizations.

  • Assist with student employee training, development, and recognition programs.
Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, recreation, or a related field is required. 3 years of relevant experience with one year of management experience is needed.

  • Excellent customer service abilities
  • Exceptional verbal, written communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and conflict resolution skills.
