    PRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF JOB:

    Extension Agents are community based professionals of Kentucky State University who make a difference by connecting community needs with university resources. The Extension Agent for Community Resource Development will develop, conduct and deliver educational programs based on locally identified needs in community, economic, and leadership development, as well as marketing, business retention and expansion, and assisting with general community needs, while prioritizing the needs of underserved and minority audiences. This position will be tasked with building community capacity and fostering a better quality of life for community residents. The Extension Agent for Community Resource Development is responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating effective and comprehensive educational programs to assist community/civic organizations and small businesses with achieving their goals.

    SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:

    The Extension Agent for Community Resource Development is a professional educator who provides education and leadership among community and civic groups, as well as small businesses. This agent will work closely with the KSU Community Resource Development Program Leader for all programmatic efforts. This agent will be a member of the off-campus Extension staff of Kentucky State University as part of the Kentucky Cooperative Extension System, which is composed of individuals and programs from both Kentucky State University and the University of Kentucky.     ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Develop and implement research-based virtual and face-to-face educational programs tailored to meeting the needs of local organizations and small businesses in regards to community, economic, and leadership development, as well as marketing, business retention and expansion, and general community requests.
  2. Develop, implement, and evaluate a county plan of work based on locally identified needs.
  3. Develop collaborative partnerships among elected officials, community leaders, and businesses and organizations.
  4. Collect, enter, and analyze statistical data, and report in Kentucky Extension Reporting System.
  5. Develop newsletters to communicate efforts with stakeholders.
  6. Design, implement, and evaluate educational programs in the areas of small business development, strategic planning, communications, and marketing.
  7. Serve as a resource to the community and conduit to additional programming and information available at Kentucky State University.
  8. Assist organizations and small businesses with identifying funding sources, writing grants, and supplying documentation associated with gifts, grants, and contracts.
  9. Understand the needs of small, limited-resource groups and underserved audiences and demonstrate a willingness to work to improve the quality of life in communities and increase profitability for small businesses.
  10. Perform other job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned.


OTHER DUTIES: The position will conduct other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Community and Leadership Development, Communications, Marketing, Business, or a related field. One to three years of experience and Master’s Degree in related area are preferred.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge and experience in planning, conducting, and evaluating participatory Extension or non-formal education programs.
  • Extensive knowledge of community, economic, and leadership development.
  • Extensive knowledge of marketing and business retention and expansion.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Excellent team building skills.
  • Excellent conflict resolution skills.
  • Understanding and ability to conduct community needs assessment to determine program priorities.
  • Knowledge of child and human development.
  • Knowledge and willingness of adult involvement and working relationships.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge in educational technologies and their appropriate use in the development and delivery of educational programs.
  • Program marketing skills.
  • Knowledge and willingness to involve and manage participants in delivery.
  • Maintain a personal commitment to working with diverse clientele and colleagues, and a willingness to further the civil rights goals of KSU Cooperative Extension.


WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:


  • Must be able to lift large boxes up to 40 lbs.
  • Must be able to travel.
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
  • Work could involve some exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
  • Requires some standing or walking.
  • A valid driver license and a personal vehicle for official duty travel are required. Mileage will be reimbursed at a rate established by the university.
