Description

The College of Education (CoE) at Clemson University seeks to hire a postdoctoral research fellow to support the grant-funded project Community Collaboration for Counselors (CCC): Increasing School-Based Mental Health Support in the Department of Education and Human Development. The project includes a collaboration with Clemson's Counselor Education program and the Greenville County School District. A major focus of the project includes training diverse groups of 12 school district employees to become school counselors or school-based mental health counselors in high-need schools. These employee-graduate students will engage with the existing Counselor Education program and attention will be placed on increasing training to support the needs of diverse groups of K12 students in high-need schools. The postdoctoral fellow will work closely with Dr. Amanda Rumsey, Dr. Corrine Sackett, Dr. Liz Boyd, Dr. Brooke Wymer and other counselor education faculty to establish and manage the project, engage in related research and scholarship, and provide graduate instruction, training, and supervision. Candidates who will have completed a Ph.D. by August 2023 and who have relevant interests and experience are eligible to apply.

This is a one-year (9-month) position beginning August 1, 2023. The annual salary will be $50,000. Additional opportunities and funding are available for summer teaching, if interested.

Our Counselor Education program is the recipient of the 2021 Outstanding Master's Counselor Education Program Award, given by the Southern Association for Counselor Education and Supervision. The program offers a 60-credit hour CACREP-accredited master of education degree with specializations in clinical mental health counseling or school counseling. We do not have a doctoral program in Counselor Education and Practice. Courses are taught in the afternoons/evenings, Monday through Thursday. Approximately one-third of the courses are taught at Clemson University and the other two-thirds at the University Center in Greenville over the course of the program.

Responsibilities

The Postdoctoral Fellow is expected to work closely with CCC project faculty to (1) assist with developing evaluation plans for process and outcome evaluations; (2) collect and analyze evaluation data from a variety of sources (e.g., surveys, document review); (3) contribute to related scholarly activity (e.g., developing presentations, writing journal articles); and (4) assist with graduate instruction and supervision.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• PhD in Counselor Education, degree conferred before starting employment
• Excellent academic writing and communication skills
• Experience collaborating on larger projects
• Ability to work independently

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with counseling and school settings
• Experience conducting research and preparing reports or manuscripts for publication
• Experience working on grant-funded projects
