We’re currently searching for an Associate Director to join our Hokie Wellness team in Blacksburg, VA to help lead our Education & Prevention Programs. Here’s what you need to know about the role:

1) You’ll be joining the Hokie Wellness team; a department dedicated to student success and well-being, inclusion, and belonging; and committed to educate and encourage a well-rounded, healthy lifestyle that encompasses all dimensions of well-being—physical, emotional, social, community, financial and sense of purpose.

2) You’ll be reporting directly to the Senior Director of Hokie Wellness, in a Regular twelve-month, 100% administrative/professional faculty appointment. 

3) You’ll be responsible for overseeing all interdepartmental student health and wellness promotion initiatives for events like Orientation, Welcome Week, and Family Weekend. In addition, you’ll: provide direct supervision to the health education, mental health, and financial wellness areas of Hokie Wellness; assist all wellness areas with their evaluation/assessment plans (culminating in a yearly Hokie Wellness evaluation report); and you’ll work closely with the Senior Director of Hokie Wellness to provide budgetary support, leadership, and direct programmatic assistance as needed to all areas of Hokie Wellness.

4) You’ll be offered a base compensation package between $70,000-$80,000, along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes health insurance, paid leave, retirement, tuition assistance, VT discounts, and so much more!

Required Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree and progressive professional experience in wellness initiatives, health education, public health, or other relevant field.
  • Significant demonstrated experience with developing, managing, implementing, and evaluating wellness services and programs designed for diverse college-age and/or adult-age populations; including experience with reaching underserved populations and addressing physical and mental health issues that impact student performance and success.
  • Demonstrated experience in analyzing data to develop best practices and evidence-based programming.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to manage multiple and competing priorities and take initiative in a dynamic, fast paced environment.
  • Demonstrated experience providing effective supervision and management of full-time professional staff, peer education teams, student interns, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience fostering diverse and inclusive environments and establishing collaborative, positive, productive working relationships with all levels of the campus community.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience within health promoting campuses/higher education environments
  • Experience with traditional and state-of-the art strategies of health promotion, education, behavior change, environmental management, and evaluation.
  • Experience with community organizing strategies and principles for prompting collective action.
  • Demonstrated experience and working knowledge of budget and fiscal-related matters.
