The Carl Vinson Institute of Government is hiring a Public Relations Coordinator with professional experience as a writer, reporter, or in public relations. Applications will only be considered by applying through the UGA link listed below.

The Institute of Government helps governments be more efficient and responsive to citizens, address current and emerging challenges, and serve the public with excellence. What does that mean? A hundred different things every day. Institute of Government faculty work with local governments to develop community brand strategies, create innovative workforce solutions, and teach classes. Faculty and staff hold seminars and host conferences to enhance the skills of public servants across the United States (and especially Georgia).

The Institute of Government’s work is robust. We cover a variety of topics, including workforce development, economic development, data visualization, demography and applied research projects for state agencies, local governments, development authorities, and other governmental organizations.

We also do technical work, such as building the nation’s first interactive map to show where broadband is most needed in the state. We’ve helped government agencies analyze their services and cybersecurity to prepare for the future. And we work directly with city managers, clerks and others to update their skill sets according to the constituencies they serve.

The Public Relations Coordinator plays a critical role in the well-being of the Institute of Government by communicating stories of the communities we work with, the people doing that work and the difference such work makes in people’s lives.

We’re looking for a writer with proven experience who is thoughtful, resourceful and curious. Can you write stories of varying lengths about how a study of data or a community’s revamped strategic plan can move a community forward? Can you help the public understand the role governments and public entities play in their lives?

This position works as part of a collaborative, creative Communications team that tackles public relations and promotions for the Institute of Government’s many projects, events and classes. In addition to writing regular features, it will coordinate articles and pitches to create interest in and loyalty to the Institute of Government. It will coordinate communications with partner organizations and agencies and write news releases as well as web content and promotions.
