Job Description



PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

T he PT Spec ialist III Career Services is responsible for facilitating successful job searches for students and alumni by: building relationships within the local business community; organizing department events, including job fairs, on campus interviews and resume workshops; maintaining the job board online and on campus; promoting department services through social media, campus events and department website; giving classroom presentations and meeting with individual students; and assisting with the general operation of the department through analytical, administrative, and clerical support with limited supervision.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Organize 4-7 Job Fairs annually, including reserving rooms with R25, requesting tables, tablecloths and trashcans from Facilities department, reserving parking spaces through the Campus Police department, creating online registration form with Google Forms, designing and distributing campus promotional materials (posters, flyers, table tents), promoting event via social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram & LinkedIn), writing and submitting press release to Media Services, scheduling campus display of yard signs, banners and promos on campus monitors, providing excellent communication with businesses (by extending an invitation to the event, confirming registration, answering questions and sending reminders), inviting students in person and via email, reaching out to faculty to promote event in class and ordering sandwich trays for the recruiters' lunch break
  • Maintain job board by communicating with hundreds of local employers (email, phone, in person), creating job flyers for the bulletin board and updating online job board listings with Google Docs
  • Greet walk-in traffic and answer questions on job search skills and resume writing
  • Survey businesses and students monthly via Google Forms, e-mail and phone calls to obtain accurate student/alumni hiring data
  • Organize events such as Mock Interviews, On-Campus Interviews and Open Resume Labs by reserving rooms with R25, designing and distributing campus promotional materials (posters, flyers, table tents), promoting events via social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram & LinkedIn) and inviting participants via email
  • Register students on the CareerSTAR job board
  • Create and maintain databases of students and businesses with MS Access and Excel software
  • Promote department events on social media sites (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) using Hootsuite
  • Maintain website with current events and promotional images using Open Text Web Site Management/Editor
  • Design and distribute promotional materials (posters, flyers, table tents) using MS Publisher and Word
  • Give classroom PowerPoint presentations to groups of 10-30 students on resume writing, interview skills, job search techniques and programs available through the Career Services department
  • Compile data for monthly report including student hires, job fair attendance, workshop attendance, student appointments, classroom presentations, Career Closet shoppers, and job board visitors
  • Interact with faculty, staff and students and attend campus events to promote the departments' events
  • Train and supervise Work/Study student employees to schedule appointments using MS Outlook calendar and to answer questions about department services
  • Recruit new businesses to offer hiring opportunities to our students, and schedule businesses to recruit at the Guest Information Table


  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially: Publisher, Word, Excel, Outlook and Access
    • Proficient in Google applications, in cluding Drive, Forms and Sheets
    • Knowledgeable in social media sites (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn) and Hootsuite management
    PHYSICAL ABILITIES :

    The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

    WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:
    • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
    • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
    • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards
    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    High school diploma or GED

    Salary

    Hourly Pay Rate is $13.99
