Summary:
The Associate Director of Research & Prospect Management serves as the lead researcher and prospect identifier for University Relations and manages all work related to research and prospect management. This position actively supports the University's fundraising efforts by working closely with University Relations personnel to track movement though the donor cycle, analyze moves management and key fundraising metrics, and develops tools to make data visible. This position is responsible for the identification and collection of information relevant to developing long-term philanthropic relations with alumni, parents, and friends of the University.

    Responsibilities:
  • Take a leadership role in the design, implementation, and maintenance of the prospect management system in order to identify, evaluate, categorize, and report on the progress of major gift prospects. Additionally, design, develop, implement, and coordinate the methodologies for prospect management and criteria for analysis and review, procedures for written materials, and systems for distribution and retrieval as well as prospect pool analysis and data analytics.
  • Proactively identify prospects through daily review of daily donor reports and news alerts, share relevant information with colleagues, and update constituent records.
  • Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of principal and leadership gift level approaches to key individuals, corporations, foundations, and other organizations.
  • Conduct market, prospect, and donor research; analyze and summarize qualitative and quantitative data; prepare detailed reports on individuals and others identified as prospects; may recommend strategies to specific segments or departments; may prepare presentations to summarize findings.
  • Compose individualized reports, briefs, and other documents (profiles, biographies, project summaries) using style, grammar, and content appropriate to specific audiences.
  • Maintain frequent contact with University leaders, fundraisers, and department leadership, and routinely meet with these areas/colleagues to discuss prospects, projects, state of portfolios, review activity metrics, and ensure that donor cycle stage progression is being appropriately recorded.
  • Ensure all biographical (family, employment, address and telephone append/updates) and prospect tracking information for our constituents (alumni, parents, friends, corporations, foundations, and other organizations) is recorded in the database in a timely, consistent, and reportable format.
  • Develop and maintain University's system for tracking prospect activity/information; provide historical records of prospect/donor relationship with the institution and other philanthropic organizations.
  • In concert with the relevant leadership and colleagues, develop and implement policies, procedures, processes, standards, templates, systems, methods, and rating formulas relevant to prospect and development research.
  • Act as the University's expert regarding prospect tracking in areas of applications and databases as well as prospect management policies.
  • Take a leadership role in the design, modification, and testing of report and dashboard templates to track prospect management work related to portfolio composition, prospect activity tracking, stage-aging, and proposal review.
  • Act as lead with database mapping and donor coding projects and fields that affect University Relations.
  • May communicate and educate fundraisers and research team about trends in industry and philanthropy and in sources of wealth.
  • May supervise, train, coach, and review the work of other staff or student employees as assigned.

    Requirements:
    Education and Experience
  • Required: Associate's degree, bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Required: 4+ years of experience in fundraising or a similar experience in the corporate or business sector.
  • Required: Experience using electronic, print, and informal prospect research tools.
  • Preferred: Experience with iWave, Raiser’s Edge RENXT, Argos, and Tableau.
  • Or a combination of equivalent education and/or experience.

  • Excellent ability to conduct research, generally in electronic format.
  • Excellent project management skills. Proven success in following through with and completing projects, including multiple projects being worked on at the same time.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
