Case Manager/Counselor
Non-Tenure-Track 12-month, full-time faculty position
California State University Fullerton is seeking applications for a professional mental health case manager/ counselor. Under the general supervision of the Director, the selected candidate will provide a full range of case-management and clinical services (50%) and will serve as the mental health liaison for the Guardian Scholars (foster youth) program (50%). This position is a full-time (40 hours a week), 8a-5pm (with occasional evening and weekend hours), and 12-month position. Successful candidates will have a Master's degree in a mental health field from an accredited university, is a licensed (at least at the master's level) mental health professional, and have expertise in addressing the mental health and welfare, as well as the educational and academic achievement needs of a diverse college student population. Successful Candidates will be expected to collaborate and work closely with other disciplines/departments.
Position
Case Manager/Counselor Services: Manage the communication and flow of information related to referrals from campus partners including but not limited to the Dean of Students office, Health Services, Housing, and Disability Support Services. Assist the staff in Counseling & Psychological Services with referrals for students needing counseling at an off-campus agency. Meet with students to assist with linking them to off-campus resources. Serve as a liaison to our off-campus mental health providers. Help maintain and create referral databases for our students. Conduct outreach and presentations to campus stakeholders on current mental health trends. Offer consultation to students, faculty, and staff on mental health related questions/concerns. Demonstrate the ability to provide crisis intervention and case management support for students in distress.
Mental Health Liaison Services: Serve as the direct counselor to the students in the Guardian Scholar Program (GS), which serves former foster youth. Develop and provide outreach programs based on the needs of the students (e.g., classroom presentations; workshops; facilitated discussion groups to a diverse group of former foster youth), identify group therapy needs, individual therapy needs, collaboratively with Guardian Scholars staff develop programming support and engagement for GS students, provide consultation to GS staff on issues that affect developmental and psychological well-being of students, attend GS events such as annual retreat, welcome day, and GS reception, and assist with the Foster Youth Ally Training, and Trauma informed training.
Required Qualifications
Education/License
- Masters or Doctorate in Counseling, Clinical, or School
Psychology (or relevant field) from an accredited
program.
- California license to practice psychology-LCSW, LMFT, LPCC, or
Licensed Psychologist.
- Case management service experience (clinical and
non-clinical).
- Experience working with trauma.
- Demonstrated experience with mental health issues pertinent to
a diverse college student population.
- Knowledge of mental health resources and systems of
care.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement outreach
presentations and workshops on mental health topics and to provide
consultation and preventive education.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct intake interviews, including
psycho-diagnostic assessment, case conceptualization, and treatment
plan formulation, for students with a broad spectrum of
psychological problems, ranging from adjustment issues to major
psychiatric disorders.
- Demonstrated ability to provide individual and group
counseling, and crisis intervention for psychological
emergencies.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent ability to work as a member of a collaborative,
multidisciplinary team.
- Computer Skills: Demonstrated ability to do electronic
scheduling and record keeping
- Must successfully pass a background check and pre-employment
fingerprinting.
Preferred Qualifications - Experience and interest in providing outreach services and
counseling to address traditionally underserved
students.
- Experience working with foster-care youth.
- Understanding of the reunification process/emotional challenges
for students as they obtain access to biological parents/siblings
once they turn 18.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage a variety of
clinical and non-clinical duties as part of a multi-disciplinary
team.

Additional Information
This is a full-time 12-month Counselor position, renewable annually based on satisfactory performance evaluations and budgetary funding. The Student Services Professional-Academic Related I-12-month salary range is $6,190 to $11,584 per month (12 monthly payments per year). Anticipated hiring range depending on experience and qualification is $6,730 to $7,142 per month. Faculty salaries are subject to budgetary authorization and any California State University System faculty contract increases.
