Position Overview:
The Director of Class Giving and Reunion Programs leads an eight-person team supporting important strategic priorities focused on both comprehensive volunteerism and milestone campaigns across all class years (except the young alumni cohort). They partner closely with team leaders across The Penn Fund, and with colleagues both within Development and Alumni Relations as well as across the University, to align outreach and engagement to ensure a coordinated approach to further developing and deepening the pipeline of Penn undergraduate alumni philanthropists.

Reporting to the Executive Director of The Penn Fund, the Director of Class Giving and Reunion Programs manages and partners with a team charged with cultivating reunion leadership volunteers and donors in addition to expanding both pools outside of celebratory years. They will develop and implement data-driven strategies designed to increase reunion and non-reunion class giving at the leadership level as well as alumni participation and total dollars raised from undergraduate alumni. In summary, the Director supports their team with personal outreach and engagement to as many potential donors across all non-young alumni class years as possible in any given fiscal year. They are also responsible for strategizing around the class volunteer structure including the recruitment, retention, and stewardship of class giving committees. Close collaboration with colleagues across Undergraduate and Individual Giving and all schools, centers, and units is pivotal to maximizing success.

Job Description

Targeted Pay Range: $100,000-$115,000

This Targeted Pay Range is only applicable to this job posting. All salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, as well as internal and market factors and job profile.

Specific Responsibilities:

Penn Fund Team Strategy (40%)—
  • Engage in annual planning for The Penn Fund's overall goals and strategies with Director of Young Alumni and Student Philanthropy, Director of Marketing and Donor Participation, and Executive Director.
  • Collaborate with Penn Fund and comprehensive DAR team members to coordinate strategies for class giving and reunion programs to increase overall donor participation and leadership giving. Rely on frequent analysis of data to plan for advanced and timely execution.
  • Collaborate with all noted above to develop new programs, processes, and technologies that will help to increase our success as a fundraising team.
  • Build reports and tools for analysis to gauge progress and evaluate success as well as leverage these successes once determined.
  • Integrate new technology—web, social media, cloud-based, etc.—into various marketing strategies and channels whenever possible.
  • Participate as an active member of The Penn Fund management team, and partner to increase communication amongst the different outreach areas.
  • Establish an overall pipeline of prospects for class giving and milestone reunion campaigns, focusing on increasing dollars and donors to the University every year.


Class Giving and Reunion Programs Team Leadership (20%)—
  • Establish priorities, goals, and clear performance expectations for all team members and evaluate performance and accountability through ongoing feedback.
  • Manage staffing needs and identify areas for organizational development or enhancement.
  • Ensure open communication among team members, engage in team building efforts, and hold regular staff meetings that embrace and support the group's mission.
  • Coordinate successful fundraising efforts across the class giving and milestone reunion program in a unified and consistent manner, with annual focus on the current cycle of 15th-70th campaigns.
  • Inspire and motivate team members to achieve optimal results.
  • Coordinate coverage of all classes whenever vacancies may exist within the Class Giving and Reunion Programs team.


Frontline Fundraising (20%)—
  • Oversee the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of leadership gift prospects across all non-young undergraduate alumni (11th reunion and all classes older).
  • Manage a pipeline of ‘top 200' prospects to be solicited at the Benjamin Franklin Society level ($2,500+)—with additional focus on raising endowed scholarships from undergraduate alumni who may contribute at least $125,000 over five years.
  • Assist Executive Director with building and maintaining individual portfolios for annual giving prospect management.
  • Steward appropriately and effectively all top non-young undergraduate alumni donors.
  • Coordinate outreach and engagement efforts with the Director of Marketing and Donor Participation, the Young Alumni and Student Philanthropy team, and the Regional Major Gifts team and school-based major gifts colleagues.


Volunteer and Event Management (15%)—
  • In collaboration with the team, coordinate the recruitment, engagement, and evaluation of a group of class giving ambassadors and milestone reunion volunteers.
  • In partnership with colleagues, implement strategies to create accurate participation and dollar goals by class and to achieve these goals through peer-to-peer volunteer and staff solicitation.
  • Recruit new class and reunion giving volunteers through visits, emails, and/or event outreach.
  • Motivate volunteers to encourage peer attendance at all Penn Fund and regional alumni events.
  • Partner with colleagues and volunteers to assign prospects for solicitation within online portal or related spreadsheet database.
  • Update volunteers on a regular basis regarding class progress toward goal and success of their solicitations.
  • Work with the Executive Director to manage the Leadership Giving Strategy sub-committee of The Penn Fund Executive Board, inspiring those members within to serve as The Penn Fund's key ambassadors in soliciting and stewarding their peers as potential and current leadership-level donors. Attend quarterly board meetings and help to prepare topics for the leadership giving strategy sub-committee to discuss.
  • Help plan and facilitate the annual Penn Reunion Volunteer Conference (PRVC) in collaboration with colleagues in Alumni Relations and our respective lead volunteer committees—the Alumni Class Leadership Council (ACLC) and The Penn Fund Executive Board (TPFEB).
  • Organize and execute annual regional leadership giving events to cultivate and steward those making more substantial commitments to the University.
  • Manage team members in planning multiple pre-reunion events as desired by milestone volunteers and/or giving committees.
  • Actively participate in other large-scale events such as Alumni Weekend, Commencement, and Homecoming in addition to other special occasions.


Qualifications:
  • BA/BS degree required.
  • Seven to ten years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Demonstrated management experience required—especially as it pertains to establishing performance objectives, providing constructive feedback, and evaluating progress toward meeting performance goals.
  • Desired skills include, but are not limited to, and may be described in other ways: excellent interpersonal, communication, and writing skills, strong attention to detail, ability to organize and manage multiple projects, and wish to work both individually and collaboratively while contributing to total team culture and effort.
  • Ideally driven and motivated by the possibilities ahead, holds belief that innovation is critical to success, and seeks to support others in creative thinking.
  • Prides oneself on high-quality work and naturally challenges our team to grow every year.
  • Holds knowledge of fundraising principles, concepts, and techniques and is comfortable soliciting gifts from a diverse and engaged donor community.
  • Proficiency in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation applications (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) preferred in addition to capacity to learn systems and databases unique to the organization.
  • Must be willing to travel as necessary to meet with donors and volunteers.
  • Potential to work nights and/or weekends at limited times of the year.
