Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Facilities and Operations Manager, Division of Laboratory Animal Resources at its Detroit campus location.

Essential functions (job duties):

Job Purpose:

The Facilities and Operations Manager serves as administrative manager of the University's animal research facilities and coordinates operations within the Division of Laboratory Animal Resources. The Facilities and Operations Manager ensures compliance with all university, state, and federal regulations in university animal facilities.

Essential Duties:

Coordinate equipment repairs and facility issues with the appropriate internal and external parties. Manage existing inventory to ensure it fits programmatic needs. Perform small repairs to existing equipment as needed for operational needs.

Assist the Director and business manager in developing strategic plans for facilities, equipment, and resource management. Advise on Divisional supply/equipment expenditures. Give input in the planning of new construction and renovation of existing facilities.

Develop, establish, implement, and maintain internal policies and procedures for operational activities. Advise on operational policies to improve efficiency and optimize practices. Participate in staff recruitment and retention activities.

Develop policies and procedures related to facilities and personnel that ensure compliance with local, state, federal, and accreditation standards and regulations. Ensure and train staff on procedures related to facility and equipment.

Oversee division security and environmental monitoring systems 24 hours/day, 365 days/year.

Travel to local and national conferences related to lab animal facility management and operations is expected. Continuing education is required to maintain excellence in this position.

Qualifications:

Education Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in biological science preferred.

Completion of an AVMA accredited veterinary technology program is desirable.

Academic coursework and/or experience should demonstrate applied knowledge of and proficiency in laboratory animal science, operations, and facilities.

Experience Specialist (minimum 5 years of job-related experience).

Previous work experience and demonstrated leadership in the field is required.
