Department Summary
The Erb Memorial Union (EMU) is a department of the Division of Student Life. The EMU is a multifaceted auxiliary service that employs over 90 professional staff and 400 student staff, and serves over 15 thousand daily users during the academic year. The EMU welcomes students, faculty, staff, the community and visitors to campus, and its mission is to provide learning experiences and opportunities for personal growth in an open, inclusive, and resource-rich community where students and staff collaborate to inspire and sustain extraordinary programs and services that promote diversity and social interaction. The EMU is student-centered and is operated in collaboration with a student Board, who are actively involved in determining the character and scope of the department and approve the budget recommendations of all EMU services and programs.

Moss Street Children's Center (MSCC) is an early child development program that primarily serves children of UO students, aged 3 months to eleven years. Our campus site serves approximately 200 children. Center hours are 7:30am to 6:00pm Monday through Friday with occasional evening and weekend hours.

Position Summary
The Office and Compliance Specialist works in the lobby of Moss Street Children's Center as the first point of contact for visitors and families. This position will provide reception to walk-in visitors, children, and parents as well as answer the phone and respond to general emails. This position is also responsible for coordinating the status of individual staff teaching qualifications as it relates to ELD Oregon Registry Online (ORO) and implementing and tracking recruitment, hiring, orientation, training, and compensation procedures and activities, including maintaining staff files for regular and student staff.

This position will also be responsible for assisting with kitchen prep.

This position may be asked to drive a small school bus occasionally if backup is needed.

Moss Street Children's Center is open from 7:30a-6:00p. This position will work a regular schedule within these hours but may be asked to work evening hours occasionally.

Special Requirement
The successful candidate must pass the Childcare Division Background Registry prior to the start date.

Minimum Requirements
Two years of general clerical experience. One year of which included typing, word processing, or other experience generating documents;
OR
An Associate's degree in Office Occupations or Office Technology;
OR
Graduation from a private school of business with a Certificate in Office Occupations or Office Technology and one year of general clerical experience.

College courses in Office Occupations or Office Technology will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Professional Competencies
  • Ability to work independently on routine tasks.
  • Possess excellent communication skills.
  • Experienced in establishing relationships with diverse populations of clients and staff.
  • Adept at multi-tasking, possessing the ability to repeatedly break away from tasks to focus on clients.

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Background working in child care or in an educational setting.
  • At least one year experience with customer service, or in a busy office environment.
  • Experience communicating by phone, via email and in person, with clients and staff.
