Position Purpose

To undertake experiments and general laboratory duties that support the research program of Bing He, Ph.D. The research in the He laboratory combines cutting-edge imaging techniques with genetics, optogenetics, cell biology and biophysics to unravel the mechanisms of tissue formation in development. The position holder will receive hands-on laboratory training including Drosophila molecular genetics, embryology, confocal and multiphoton microscopy, optogenetics and quantitative image analysis. In addition to providing technical support to senior members of the laboratory, the position holder will also have the opportunity to lead an independent research project.

Education
  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in one of the Biological Sciences or the equivalent.
Experience
  • At least one year of research experience.
Skills & Knowledge
  • Familiarity with basic laboratory techniques such as PCR and gel electrophoresis.
  • Ability to learn, develop and apply new techniques under the guidance of the principal investigator.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking and sound judgment.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of basic computer software applications.
  • Willingness to assist and communicate with other team members of the laboratory.
  • Willingness to work with potentially hazardous materials and exhibit safe laboratory practices.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with microscopy and image analysis.
  • Experience with molecular cloning.
