The Biology Department at the University of North Alabama invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Biology beginning August 2023. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Biology or a biology-related discipline (ABD with a completion date by August 2023 will be considered); applicants must also have broad expertise in the areas of ecology and biostatistics. Excellence in undergraduate teaching, research (including research activities involving students), and service are expected. The department offers a variety of BS options in Biology, Environmental Biology, Marine Biology, and Cellular/Molecular Biology. Primary teaching duties will include advanced undergraduate courses in Ecology and Biostatistics along with majors-level and non-majors introductory biology, as well as possibilities for additional upper-division courses in the candidate’s particular area of expertise; the regular teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester (fall/spring; summer teaching is optional but not required). The precise area of research specialization for this position is open, but preference may be given to individuals whose background includes aquatic ecology or plant biology and/or complements the expertise of current faculty in the department. Development of an active research agenda and publication are required for tenure and promotion. Other expectations include participation in academic advising and serving on departmental, college, and University committees as needed.
The successful applicant must hold a Ph.D. in Biology or a biology-related discipline; ABD applicants will be considered provided that all degree requirements are met by the time of appointment. The successful applicant must also have the expertise necessary to teach and conduct research in ecology and biostatistics (including statistical analysis and programming experience using R).
