Position Summary:

The School of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine is seeking a Clinical Research Assistant for Hepatology Clinical Research Trial Sample Processing. Responsibilities will include conducting laboratory sample processing for human clinical trials conducted by Dr. Arun Sanyal and his Clinical Research Team.

Under direct supervision, this position will be responsible for supporting Principal Investigator(s), clinical research coordinators, and other more senior members of a clinical study team with administrative, regulatory, and data management tasks as assigned. Key tasks may include: case-finding, evaluation and abstraction of source documentation, case report form completion, database use and management (including our institutional CTMS), data abstraction and organization for presentation/publications. Responsible for subject data management and maintaining source documents and subject files according to Good Clinical Practice. May assist with preparing and shipping medical samples/specimens to/from appropriate labs, providing administrative support to study activation processes and regulatory maintenance of assigned studies. This is an entry level position working under direct supervision. Common working titles may include: clinical research assistant, clinical research associate. NOTE: Develop a knowledge base of federal and state laws and regulations, sponsor guidance as well as university policies and compliance notices related to duties assigned.

Minimum Hiring Standards:

- Working knowledge of laboratory techniques including blood sample processing, pipetting, and instrument maintenance.
- Comfortable utilizing various instruments, techniques and protocols.
- Accuracy, precision, and efficiency in work habits are required.
- Must be able to use time effectively, multi-task, work independently and be detail-oriented.
- Comfortable with handling human samples.
- Good computer and communication skills are necessary.
- Professionalism and good interpersonal skills are required.
- Ability to work in a diverse environment is required.
- Relevant lab and/or clinical research experience

Preferred Hiring Standards:

- Bachelors, advanced degree or equivalent experience in Chemistry or Biology strongly preferred.
- Clinical Laboratory Science certification preferred.
- Experience with liver disease preferred.
- Experience with research and clinical trials strongly preferred.
- Dangerous Goods/IATA Training preferred.
- Familiarity with RedCap and Microsoft Excel preferred.
- Familiarity with VCUHealth preferred.
