Job Summary

The Lifeguard ensures the safety of pool patrons and assists with aquatic programs and pool operations.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Performance Requirements*
  • Safeguards and regulates the conduct of pool patrons, while enforcing pool policies, rules, and regulations
  • Rescues patrons and performs appropriate follow-up procedures, including the proper use of equipment in the performance of first aid
  • Maintains appropriate records, including participating in the preparation of daily records, providing written reports on all accidents, and maintaining properly updated safety requirements
  • Conducts patron swimming test to assess the ability to swim independently and unattended while providing customer service to patrons, including handling customer conflict and complaints, as necessary
  • Performs work safely in accordance with departmental safety procedures, including operating equipment safely and reporting any unsafe work conditions or practice to supervisor; attends in-service training and instructs certain skills to staff
  • Maintains equipment and materials used within the department
  • Maintains room in clean, orderly manner and provides strict security and accountability
Service Excellence
  • Participates on behalf of the College in external community organizations and associations as assigned to support the essential performance requirements
  • Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite
  • Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through Tarrant County College ( TCC )
  • Supports the values of the College: diversity, teaching excellence, student success, innovation, and creativity and service to the College
  • Supports the mission, values and 3 goals and 8 principles of the College

Required Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Lifeguard certification
  • First aid certification
  • CPR / AED certification
Preferred Qualifications
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard certification
  • Experience working as a Lifeguard
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Skilled in excellent customer service and interpersonal relationships with diverse populations, including strong listening, verbal, and written communication
  • Skilled using computer applications and enterprise systems, including the Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment and a setting that is diverse and urban
  • Ability to think critically to effectively solve and communicate problems in a fast-paced environment where the demands for work are varied, and unpredictable in scope and volume
  • Ability to analyze data and provide sound recommendations based on policy, procedure, practice, and existing regulations

Special Instructions Summary

This is a part-time position, with a maximum of 19.5 hrs. per week. Flexibility is required as part-time work schedules may vary based on individual campus/departmental needs including evenings and weekends.

This is a “Pooled” posting utilized to hire Lifeguard positions on multiple campuses. Applications for “Pooled” positions are reviewed as assignments become available. Hiring supervisors review applications and make hiring decisions on an as-needed basis.
