Job Description Summary
Community for Rigor (C4R) at University of Pennsylvania is a new NIH funded initiative aiming at teaching the principles of scientific rigor, such as p-hacking, correlation vs causation, literature reviews, or power calculations to scientists worldwide. They are focused on making science, wherever it happens, more rigorous, trustworthy, and meaningful, serving the broad neuroscience community to get started.
The Research Operations Manager will provide support and will act as the point person for the overall project, responding to various inquiries and resolving issues.
Job Description
The Research Operations Manager will:
- Provide executive level support to Konrad Kording and the C4R
team; coordinate among team members and within the organization;
obtain and transmit information to the team to further its
priorities; filter communications of executive team and prioritize
communications for executive review.
- Serve as liaison among C4R professors, their teams, and C4R
leadership, and leadership and staff of external entities. Serve as
primary contact to Penn administration.
- Run Steering committee and Advisory committees, including
writing reports and compiling agendas; ensure timely and high
quality reporting to all external entities.
- Manage and maintain complex calendars of C4R leadership.
Schedule and arrange all associated details for large and small
meetings and events, making decisions based on working knowledge of
responsibilities and priorities of executives. Ensure that
leadership is prepared for meetings.
- Involved in managing a group of approximately 30 people across
the USA. Ensure efficient operations of the overall team, including
planning of staffing, as appropriate. Evaluate performance of the
Penn-based personnel.
- Manage the workflow of external teams consisting of professors
and NIH staff.
- Collect and compile data, statistics and other materials for
reports, budgets, correspondence, etc. Prepare, edit, and
distribute various materials. Research available sources to gather
requested or needed information.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a scientific field and a minimum of three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Experience working with science and with not-for-profit leadership.
