Job Description:

Amherst College invites applications for the Senior Coordinator for Academic Department Support position. The Senior Coordinator for Academic Department Support is a full-time, on-site (100%), year-round position, starting at $68,905 per year - commensurate with experience. In collaboration with Provost Office leadership and Department Chairs, The Senior Coordinator for Academic Department Support provides support and guidance to a diverse group of Academic Department Coordinators (ADCs) through the identification, creation, implementation, training, and assessment of ADC tasks and responsibilities. Reporting to the Assistant to the Provost/Office Manager, the Senior Coordinator for Academic Department Support supports all logistical aspects of the ADC hiring and placement process, including leading the search process, onboarding, training, and identifying temporary support for faculty support during ADC leaves of absence. All members of the Provost/Dean of the Faculty's Office must share a commitment to respecting the diverse intersectional identities and experiences of the student body.

Summary of Responsibilities
  • Review ADC tasks and responsibilities and identify best practices. Create and update, as necessary, a library of best practices and training topics. Provide support, implementation guidance, and training to ADCs on processes and procedures.
  • Conduct regular meetings with the ADCs. Create agendas, provide tips and ideas to work through problems, and build a sense of community among the ADCs.
  • Mentor new and existing staff by offering advice and guidance to help foster and promote professional development.
  • Support the Department Chairs with their supervisory tasks, such as the PMP process, by collecting and organizing documentation, organizing training, and providing process support.
  • Identify ways to audit and calibrate more equitable workloads among ADCs and review job descriptions for all ADC positions.
  • Responsible for ADC hiring and placement process, including supporting the search process, onboarding, training, and identifying temporary support for faculty during ADC leaves of absence.
  • Assists in problem-solving and escalates issues/concerns as needed, initially to the supervisor and, if necessary, to the provost. Addresses complaints and suggests solutions.
  • Assesses and evaluates ways to further support the ADCs.
  • Serves as point person for a diverse set of campus partners wishing to coordinate work flows with the ADCs.
  • Special projects and assistance with other work of the Office of the Provost, as assigned.


Qualifications

Required:
  • Bachelor's Degree or the equivalent combination of education and /or experience
  • Experience and commitment to working collaboratively and inclusively with a diverse community
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work, takes the initiative and resolves problems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in office technology, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and able to learn new technological systems


Preferred:
  • Experience with enterprise management software, particularly Workday
  • Experience with the Moodle platform
  • Supervisory experience
