Chemistry Laboratory Supervisor

Position Description:

• Supervise chemistry laboratories for the Newark Campus.
• Prepares laboratory samples, chemicals, and equipment for all ELEMENTARY or GENERAL CHEMISTRY lab courses; sets up and breaks down equipment for instructors of these laboratory sessions; assists new ELEMENTARY or GENERAL CHEMISTRY instructors in meeting departmental standards for lab instruction; consults with faculty on scheduled labs.
• Instructs up to 16 contact hours of ELEMENTARY or GENERAL CHEMISTRY courses each academic year; evaluates students’ data and performance in these courses.
• In conjunction with faculty develops and manages the laboratory safety program for Chemistry. Trains ELEMENTARY or GENERAL CHEMISTRY lab instructors in safety protocols and disposal of chemical waste in accordance with Environmental Health and Safety policies. Recruits, hires, trains, assigns, supervises ELEMENTARY or GENERAL CHEMISTRY student employees, and ensures preparedness of undergraduate student lab assistants.
• Maintains chemical and equipment inventory for ELEMENTARY or GENERAL CHEMISTRY courses; maintains readiness of related laboratory facilities for instruction. Submits purchase orders for ELEMENTARY or GENERAL CHEMISTRY to vendors. Collects, stores, and arranges for disposal of chemical waste for natural sciences classrooms and research labs in the Alford Center.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in chemistry or biochemistry and previous laboratory experience; supervisory experience 

Preferred Qualification

Ph.D. in chemistry or biochemistry is preferred.
