Job Summary

Education Support Services (ESS) provides world-class audiovisual and instructional support, event and media production, training, and consulting services to faculty, staff, and students in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS). The team supports the school’s mission by delivering premium technology offerings that enhance and creatively advance the teaching & learning environment. ESS is comprised of six service groups: Teaching & Learning Support, Design & Engineering, Event & Media Production, Language Center, Assistive Technology Services, and Piano Technical Services.

The Senior Multimedia Technician works to support faculty, students, and staff in the use and care of classroom multimedia and digital video capture equipment and regularly advances knowledge of emerging audio, video, and multimedia technologies.

Basic Qualifications
  • At least two years working with multimedia equipment and production.
  • A minimum of two years of college or technical school; education beyond high school may count toward experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word).
Additional Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree or technical school certification desirable.
  • Successful experience providing multimedia customer service in a fast-paced, academic environment.
  • Proven ability to supervise, deliver professional customer service, and manage multiple simultaneous work assignments.
  • Analytical and troubleshooting skills and the ability to identify and resolve technical process issues.
  • Effective interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills. CTS, Crestron DMC-E, and Dante certifications preferred.
  • College background in related multimedia and /or technology preferred.
  • Ability to work with a range of constituents and to develop solutions to service problems in a client-friendly manner.
  • Knowledge of a range of computer software and operating systems is preferred.

Position Description
  • Provides media technology support for classes and events;
  • Oversees capture hardware installation, configuration, updates, and troubleshooting; Responsible for supervising classroom recordings and provisioning course sites with recordings;
  • Documents technical problems and develops solutions and workarounds for failures; Regularly updates HUIT and is in direct contact with the technical staff regarding platforms and services used by ESS;
  • Works with FAS and other Harvard faculty to meet their classroom technology needs; Sets up and breaks down various classroom technology throughout the day; Performs video recording and content delivery for faculty;
  • Conducts classroom integrations of technology, explores options and collaboration with Harvard University departments beyond FAS;
  • Researches, pilots, and explores new solutions to improve the overall workflow of technical services;
  • Responsible for implementing some IT solutions and the design of video signal flow; Performs repairs on classroom equipment. on component-level electronics, various mechanical issues, and installed equipment;
  • Provides event production and support for event client needs;
  • Provides administrative and clerical duties including daily monitoring of our video recording and archive, updating classroom support sheets, notifying the team of any updates of equipment or new solutions, organizing and scheduling meetings with faculty and TFs, coordinating with clients, designing and distributing classroom signs, and answers phone calls;
  • Performs event services during weekend and evening hours
