Job Description:

The Histotechnology Program is seeking a highly qualified candidate who is strongly committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching to join SUNY Cobleskill as the Histotechnology Education Coordinator. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate courses in-person and online at the undergraduate level.

Experience related to the Histopathology field is required. Those who have worked in a quality laboratory and have provided expert laboratory service are strongly preferred. The Education Coordinator will have the opportunity to: teach within the Histotechnology Program, prepare labs for Histotechnology instruction, stay current with the Standards set-forth by NAACLS, ASCP, and the NYS-Office of the Professions, and help maintain a robust social media network of Alumni and prospective students. Other duties for this position may include: cooperating in the enrichment and growth of the program, developing micro-credentials and certificates, and assisting the Program Director with the administrative duties of the Program.

Courses taught may include, but are not limited to biological courses needed to obtain an HT, including Microtechniques, Microscopic Anatomy, Medical Terminology, and the Clinical Experience in Histotechnology.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have an Associate Degree in Science with 3 years of recent full-time Histotechnology employment
  • NYS Licensure as a Histotechnician (HT) and/or Histotechnologist (HTL).
  • American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification as a Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL).
  • Must have knowledge of relevant areas of Histotechnology such as: cutting of frozen sections, cutting biopsies, routine staining and a variety of special staining procedures including Immunohistochemistry.
  • Must have Excellent communication skills, detail oriented, work as a team member, and utilize intermediate computer applications: email, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access. Typing and answering phones, copy/fax/scan, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to the aforementioned minimum qualifications, it is preferred the candidate also have: 

  • A Bachelor Degree in Science.
  • Teaching experience in an undergraduate environment or serving as a Clinical Liaison.
  • Experience with the NAACLS Standards.
  • Experience with inter-disciplinary collaboration.

Additional Information:

  • This is an SL-3 position with a salary range of $50,000 - $55,000.
  • This is a term 10-month position.
