Job Description
BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY
Perform duties in the Histo/IHC Lab as directed by the Lab Supervisor or senior employee.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES
Sort and file blocks and slides daily.
Embed specimens in paraffin.
Operate automated stainers, coverslipper, microwave and oven.
Hand out H&E slides to the pathologists and residents.
Record temperatures and data from daily staining procedures for quality assurance.
Trim research tissue sections and ear notches for BVD antibody testing.
Maintain block and slide cabinets. Label and transport cabinets to the VMDL storage area in the Vet Med building as needed.
Weekly cleaning and maintenance of processor and embedding center.
Weekly changing of reagents on the Leica slide stainer.
Maintain the volume of carboys used within the labs.
Inform the supervisor when it is time to reorder on supplies.
Prepare solutions as needed for both labs.
Assist with slide, label and computer data entry.
Retrieve deliveries from VMDL and the mail room.
Maintain a clean lab work space.
Clean and disinfect lab counter tops, sweep floors and remove cardboard and recyclable plastic containers from the lab as necessary.
Salary
Salary Range $13.67 - $19.50 per hour
GGS Grade: 006
University Title: Research/Lab Technician Sr

Shift
Monday-Friday, 7:00 am - 3:00 pm. 30-40 hours per week (FTE 0.75-1.0).
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
A year or more of laboratory or research experience.
