Assists the Controller in the oversight, management, and execution of accounting and finance functions, including, financial reporting, accounting analysis, accounting procedures, fixed assets, and other related functions. Accountable for monitoring and reconciling bank accounts, fixed assets transactions, financial aid, liabilities, income, expense accounts, construction in progress, and other college assets. Under the supervision of the Controller, develops and maintains accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements, and actively engages in implementing process improvements to enhance our ability to adhere to tight deadlines around accounting activities, including general ledger review, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation, and support for budget preparation and forecasting activities. Ensures adherence to guidelines, regulations, fixed assets tagging requirements, physical inventory, and accountability are in accordance to College policies and GASB standards.

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Has a thorough understanding of financial reporting, reconciliations, and general ledger structures.
  • Participates in the management and oversight of all accounting and finance functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations and analyses, journal entry preparation and review, reporting and financial statement preparation.
  • Evaluates accounting and internal control systems, procedures, and applications and their effectiveness, and make recommendations for process improvements as applicable.
  • Manages the accumulation and consolidation of financial data and transactions required for accurate and timely accounting of the College’s financial results.
  • Assists in executing accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close.
  • Assists with year-end financial statement preparation, enrollment audit, and other reports.
  • Performs financial aid reconciliation, analysis, and financial reporting, promotes regulatory compliance, and collaborates with the financial aid department to rectify issues as needed.
  • Ensures timely and accurate reconciliation of bank accounts and analysis of cash activities.
  • Analyzes fixed assets to determine appropriate useful life and classification as construction in progress or fixed asset to be capitalized.
  • Assists the controller designated staff with processing non-routine accounting and reporting transactions.
  • Provides accounting and financial assistance and guidance to stakeholders across campus, establishing productive relations to enhance operational effectiveness.
  • Works with the Controller to ensure an accurate and timely year end audit.
  • Assists in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department.
  • Assists in coordinating, developing, and implementing timely and relevant monthly management reports, including analyzing financial results and tracking budget versus actual expenditure.
  • Trains, guides, and develops new and existing staff as needed.
  • Supports the Controller with special projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Controller
SALARY AND BENEFITS
  • Annual Salary ranges from $70,000-$85,000.
  • NJ Educators Health Plan with free Vision and Dental. NJ State Pension plan.
  • 15 vacation days, 15 sick days, 4 personal days, 2 floating holidays, all designated holidays and 5 non-designated holidays a year. 3 Partial Sick Days.

SPECIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, a minimum of 7 years related work experience in multiple areas of accounting (Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Accounting, Payroll, and Fixed Assets); background with institution of higher education a strong plus.

Experience: Demonstrates understanding of the community college mission, collaborates effectively with peers and other stakeholders, and has to ability to effectively communicate with non-accounting stakeholders.
  • Has strong proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office suite of productivity tools, with special emphasis on Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge of fixed assets and related processes and regulations. Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Possesses strong analytical skills, exhibits a high degree of ethics, values and integrity.
  • Demonstrates a high level of judgment, discretion, diligence, and confidentiality for handling of sensitive information. Knowledge of financial software systems and Ellucian Colleague preferred.
