The University of Miami Libraries (UML) seeks nominations and applications for a collaborative, innovative, service-oriented professional to serve as Head of Research Analytics & Impact Services, a new role within UML.  The Head of Research Analytics & Impact Services will lead a team to support the University of Miami’s research goals, to enhance opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration, and to track and measure institutional impact.  Reporting to the Associate Dean for Digital Strategies, the Head will be responsible for developing, advancing, and promoting services for scholarly identity management, research visibility, research impact, scholarly output, and research citation metrics.  The Head will design and deliver consultative services and other instructional programs to researchers related to scholar visibility and impact metrics.  The Head will compile publication data reports to meet requests from campus administrators and academic units; they will also work with librarian colleagues to support their work with assembling researcher output and assessing impact.  The Head will oversee the growth and day-to-day operations of Scholarship@Miami, which serves as the authoritative and institutionally managed record of the research output and creative work of University of Miami scholars.  The Head will lead a team which includes a Scholarly Communications Librarian for the Performing Arts & Humanities, Data Scientist, and Digital Publishing Specialist.  Close collaborators include colleagues from the University of Miami Calder Medical Library, the Marine, Atmospheric & Earth Science Library, Data & Visualization Services, the Research & Assessment Librarian, and the Research Navigator from the Office of Research & Scholarship.

Key duties and responsibilities for this position will include:

Performance

  • Provide vision and direction for the Libraries’ research analytics and impact services; strengthening existing services and developing new services;
  • Develop, promote, and provide consultative services and training to researchers on the use of research metrics, including guidance around citation analysis, disciplinary differences in publishing and metrics, methodologies used to construct research impact indicators, and the use of bibliometric and altmetric resources;
  • Provide expert advice to researchers on scholarly identity management and visibility;
  • Compiles and/or coordinates the production of bibliometric data reports to meet requests from campus administrators and academic units;
  • Develops training for librarians and others to develop a deeper understanding of research analytics and metrics;
  • Manage the day-to-day operations and development of Scholarship@Miami; coordinate work to support researcher disambiguation and the harvesting of research output;
  • Serve as a resource for scholarly communication issues including open access, open data, APCs, and public access policies, as they relate to federal grants, i.e.: NIH, NSF, NEH; provide information on publication venues;
  • Manage and foster the day-to-day work and professional development of a team that includes a scholarly communications librarian, data scientist, and digital publishing specialist;
  • Stay abreast of trends, tools, and technologies related to research information management and research impact; effectively communicate their implications to library and campus stakeholders;

Service

  • Network, collaborate, and actively participate in local, regional, national, or international organizations focused on research information management systems; research identity management, open scholarship, and scholarly communication;
  • Represent and promote the University of Miami Libraries in local, state-wide, regional, national, or international organizations as appropriate;
  • Serve/participate in University organizations, committees, task forces, and teams as appropriate;
  • Lead library-level committees, taskforces, and/or special projects.
