Description

The College of Business at Husson University is looking for a full time Instructor to be primarily responsible for multiple IT courses that are offered to non-IT majors across the university. Courses include, but are not limited to:

Computer Applications for Digital Media - (IT 121) 3 credits -

This introductory course provides an overview of computer fundamentals, the Internet and networks, file compression concepts, digital media applications, and digital file organization and management techniques. Students experience various software tools relevant to the communications industry including imaging, publishing, audio, video, web, presentation and cloud-based collaboration and learning systems.

Web Design for Non-Majors - (IT 202) 3 credits -

This course serves as an introduction to web design and covers an introduction to Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). Emphasis is on the proper structures and concepts used in web development. Topics include an introduction to graphic design elements, text, images, layout, styling, HTML and CSS code editing, and content management system(s). Internet technologies including HTTP, TCP/IP, and search engine optimization are also discussed. Additional topics include accessibility, intellectual property, and ethics.

IT 111 - Introduction to Microsoft Office - (IT 111) 3 credits -

This is a 3-credit hour course using Microsoft Office to teach the basic features of Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint, and to integrate data between the applications. Students become acquainted with the proper procedures to create documents, worksheets, databases, and presentations suitable for coursework, professional purposes, and personal use. Students gain basic hands-on experience using the integrated programs of Microsoft Office.

IT 214 - Spreadsheet Concepts and Applications - (IT 214) 3 credits -

This course introduces students to modern spreadsheet applications such as Microsoft Excel. Within the spreadsheet application, students learn how to use formulas and functions, create charts and graphs, manage large datasets, create pivot tables and use other advanced features. The course also covers best practices for spreadsheet design and implementation

Examples of Duties

Instructors will work with the Director of the School of Technology and Innovation in the College of Business. They will be supplied with a standardized curriculum that can, however, be adjusted to meet the needs of the instructor's teaching style. Instructors will also be provided with necessary training and supportive supervision to help them succeed and become part of a vigorous learning environment.

Teaching:

The full time non-ranked instructor position is responsible for a minimum of 12 credits within each of the fall and spring semesters. 12 credits is typical of 4 courses. Teaching excellence is expected and evidenced by attention to instructional design, teaching pedagogies, and performance evaluations. Teaching and student outcomes should be consistent with norms and expectations set by the arena of professional expertise. The qualified candidate will have experience/expertise in various IT disciplines; from general IT technologies to basic Web Design to Office Productivity software. In addition, there are opportunities to teach additional existing or new classes consistent with the applicant's areas of technical expertise.

Scholarship and Professional Activity:

While instructors are encouraged to participate in scholarship and professional activity, they are not required to as outlined in the Faculty Handbook. Instructors are expected to maintain sufficient professional activity that complements their ability to deliver high quality courses.

Service:

Instructors are expected to actively participate in School and College meetings, retreats, committees, and activities (open house, class meetings, and/or student recruitment projects) as well as create and maintain community relations and represent the School off campus when appropriate.

Student Advising:

Instructors are required to maintain student office hours, but are not required to officially serve as an academic advisor to students.

  • Fundamental knowledge of the Internet and networks, file compression concepts, digital media applications, and digital file organization and management techniques.
  • In depth knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite with a primary focus in Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of fundamentals of website design and development including an understanding of HTML and CSS.

  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching with specific knowledge and ability to teach undergraduate courses
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to a variety of constituencies including students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize competing goals and responsibilities.
  • The ability to work cooperatively and effectively with colleagues and supervisory staff at all levels.
  • Manage communication through multiple media (including but not limited to written text, verbal, email, video, and web).
  • Prioritize, manage, and resolve conflicts as they arise.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders to ensure quality assurance.
  • Demonstrate regular and punctual attendance, with the expectation of additional flexibility of hours during events that take place outside of normal working hours.
  • Adhere to university policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • The successful candidate will hold a minimum of a Master's degree in a field of study directly related to the technical requirements.
  • College level teaching experience is preferred.
