Job Description Summary
The Analytics team is responsible for providing the business units of the School with data and decision-making tools to support and enhance on-going business operations. Reporting to the Director of Analytics, this position will be responsible for the planning, development, monitoring, and ongoing maintenance of data pipelines, data lakes, and the data warehouse, and for the support of analytics, reporting, and BI tools for the various business units, providing easily accessible and usable data brought together from disparate sources. This position will work directly with departmental analysts and data scientists to plan, execute, evaluate, and refine large and multiple simultaneous data projects involving analytics requirements gathering, data models, and pipelines to deliver both targeted and enterprise solutions. This position will design databases and data lakes, build pipeline processes using ETL tools, APIs, and other automation tools, monitor and maintain the former, and tune databases for efficient analysis. Will review, develop, or recommend modification of procedures to solve complex problems, taking into consideration cloud-based offerings and costs. Will ensure adherence to departmental technical, quality assurance, and security standards. Will create documentation and assist with end-user training.

Job Responsibilities

We are looking for a Senior IT Project Leader to join the Wharton team! The Research & Analytics team is responsible for providing the business units of the School with data and decision-making tools to support and enhance ongoing business operations. Reporting to the Director of Analytics, you will be responsible for the planning, development, and ongoing maintenance of data pipelines, data lakes, and data warehouses across multiple projects and business units. You will also develop and support various reporting and BI tools for a wide array of end users, providing them with easily-accessible and usable data combined from disparate sources. You will work directly with departmental analysts and data scientists to plan, execute, evaluate, and refine multiple simultaneous data projects involving analytics, data modeling, and pipeline requirements to deliver both targeted and enterprise solutions. You will design databases and data lakes, build pipeline processes using ETL tools, APIs, and other automation tools, monitor and maintain the former, and tune databases for efficient analysis. You will review, develop, or recommend modification of procedures to solve complex problems, taking into consideration cloud-based offerings and costs. You will ensure adherence to technical, quality assurance, and security standards, create documentation and assist with end-user training.

This position requires a devotion to teamwork, an eagerness to learn about different domains, the ability to be successful working independently, and a passion for data! As you will be required to work directly with end users and clients, you must have excellent customer service and communication skills. We welcome applicants with database experience in any relational database. Data warehouse, AWS/cloud, and visualization experience a plus.

Qualifications
  • BA/BS in Computer Science or related discipline and 5 years relevant work experience required or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong knowledge of relational database design and SQL required
  • Experience with Python and data-related Python libraries (Pandas, Requests, JSON, etc.) required
  • Experience working with/ingesting data from REST APIs required
  • Knowledge of data models and structures and various file types (JSON, CSV, Parquet)
  • Demonstrated project management experience for large and multiple simultaneous projects required
  • Recent demonstrated experience in needs assessment required
  • Creative problem-solving skills required
  • Strong analytical skills required
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely required
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new skills both technical and non-technical and the desire to continue doing so required
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and work effectively within tight turnaround schedules required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially client communication, and interpersonal skills required
  • Experience with technical writing required


Preferred for all candidates:
  • Experience with AWS tools (Redshift, Redshift Spectrum, S3, Lambda, IAM, Athena, Glue, Boto3) and Terraform or other automation techniques is strongly preferred
  • Understanding data warehouses and data lakes is strongly preferred
  • Experience with an ETL tool such as Informatica is strongly preferred
  • Experience with programming patterns and principles, advanced SQL, version control
  • Ability to work under tight timelines while juggling multiple priorities
  • Knowledge of machine learning and/or NLP programming techniques
  • Systems administration and Linux experience
  • Experience with visualization tools and techniques a plus, especially Power BI
  • Polyglot programming skills

Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, as well as internal and market factors and grade profile.
