Job Description

The Business Development Manager, under direction of the Associate Director, Business Development, prospects new business opportunities and utilizes Industry Best Practice Opportunity Qualification techniques to support sponsored research-business capture in the UAS Sector. Assists the Associate Director, Business Development, by reviewing, nominating, and qualifying opportunities for new businesses and economic growth for the LSUASC and Coastal Bend region. Act as the primary LSUASC Point of Contact for all TAMUCC Research & Innovation Grant Opportunities under the management of the Associate Director for Business Development. Support LSUASC Leadership local outreach requirements and the TAMUCC-R&I partnership requirements for UAS related Grant Proposals and submission.

Responsibilities:

Business Development - 60%
  • Identifies and qualifies new Grant Opportunities in the UAS Sector that align with the LSUASC Leadership annual Growth Goals and Objectives.
  • Writes Concept Papers and Grant Proposals for new partnerships and Sponsored Research Agreements, develops and executes a month over month routine for identifying, qualifying, and nominating new Grants, commercialization, and entrepreneurship partnership opportunities with emphasis on the local Coastal Bend area
  • Serve as the Primary LSUASC Point of Contact (POC) for interface with TAMUCC-R&I Grant Proposal efforts.
  • Other writing assignments may include white papers, technical content, past performance and LSUASC outreach communications, executive summaries, and other documents for existing or new partnership pursuits.
  • Provides proposal writing support for programs and activities in the areas of research based innovation, commercialization, and entrepreneurship, including clear and compelling writing, editing, reviewing, proof-reading, and validating documents that are related to various aspects of business documents in the areas of innovation (disclosures, market research), commercialization (partnership/teaming agreements, memorandum of understanding/MOU, NDAs, partnership documentation) and entrepreneurship (business plans, financial plans, market research and marketing plans etc.), and other LSUASC related policies and procedures.
  • Supports the internal LSUASC NDA process as directed by the Associate Director Business Development.
  • Identifies trends and insights to optimize promotional campaigns.


Support - 20%
  • Reviews, authors, and nominates for LSUASC Leadership review and approval online content, various Social Media updates and other supporting outreach activity in relation to LSUASC branding and outreach.
  • Responds to calls and serves as point of contact for selected partners and opportunities under qualification.
  • Completes reports, briefings, and summaries for management and/or users, including status reports, problem reports, progress summaries, and system utilization reports.
  • Provides the weekly Business Development Staff Meeting updates for Associate Director, Business Development review prior to each weekly LSUASC Leadership Staff Meeting
  • Works collaboratively with others, coordinate projects, and maintain communication with stakeholders while working on multiple projects simultaneously. Work with multimedia specialist/graphic artists to develop illustrations needed to accompany narrative.
  • Under the supervision of the Associate Director, Business Development matures partner relationships and strengthens designated industry partnerships.
  • Serve as an Opportunity Advocate for selected Grant and other Partnership Opportunities and acts as a subject matter expert, providing input to LSUASC Leadership on new business partner relationships.


Marketing - 20%
  • Identifies High Value Trade Shows to include coordinating LSUASC participation decision briefings for the LSUASC Leadership review and approval.
  • Acts as liaison to external parties related to the LSUASC on selected Grants and Opportunities fostering sponsored research growth.
  • Creates Outreach strategies to gather and develop content, such as project plans, storyboards, and outlines, to include identification of information sources. Research subjects and materials as needed to communicate accurately during Tradeshows and on the various LSUASC Social Media Accounts.
  • Synthesizes information received from written and verbal sources for LSUASC Leadership review.
  • Locates information sources and developing content for industrial, corporate, and private communications. Contents development and finalization, knowledge management, and research and analysis. Write persuasively and articulately. Proof and edit the work of others, as well as your own. Produces clear, organized deliverables in accordance with requirements.

Evaluates and improves marketing, and branding strategies
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in applicable field such as Marketing, Market Research or Business Management.
  • Five (5) years of related experience in marketing, outreach, business, or economic development.
  • Additional education/experience may be used as a substitution for the minimum requirements.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Five years of business development experience in the UAS sector
  • Verifiable success in pursuing and receiving Grant Awards in the Federal Sector with emphasis on the National Science Foundation (NSF) and NASA.
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of UAS partners and business opportunities.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce PowerPoint, word processing and spreadsheet documents and presentations.
    Strong ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Advance skills in Microsoft Office Suite and customer relationship management software.
  • Excellence in relationship building and opportunity qualification management.
  • Excellence in planning and ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellence in communication skills and team coordination.
  • Possesses a rich active network in the UAS Sector.
  • Published Social Media Content in the UAS Sector.
  • Possesses a Private Pilot License.
  • Possesses a Part 107 UAS Pilot Certificate.
  • 3 Years of experience assisting UAS Service Companies with their outreach and business development activities.


Compensation:
  • Up to $8,641.67 monthly ($103,700 annually)
