Assistant Professor of Biochemistry

The School of Health Sciences at Lasell University in Newton, Massachusetts seeks a highly motivated, entrepreneurial, and collaborative individual to assume the responsibilities of Assistant Professor of Biochemistry, broadly defined, that supports our biochemistry majors and complements our forensic science program. This is a full-time, non-tenure-track, 9-month appointment to begin in the fall of 2023 reporting to the Dean of the School of Health Science. The successful candidate will join our growing undergraduate and graduate academic programs in the dynamic School of Health Sciences, established in 2018. More senior rank will be considered based on experience and other credentials.

Our recently opened a state-of-the-art Science and Technology Center offers specialized laboratories including 4 science labs (biology, chemistry, anatomy and physiology, and forensic science), exercise physiology lab, strength and conditioning lab, athletic training lab, computer lab, multipurpose classrooms, 29 faculty offices, and specialized study rooms.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence and enthusiasm in teaching and student advocacy; commitment to productivity and professional development; and active participation in school and college service that includes but is not limited to faculty standing committee work and academic advising.

Teaching responsibilities include biochemistry, and chemistry course offerings in the School of Health Sciences, with teaching assignments where expertise aligns with program needs. The ideal candidate should be highly experienced and skilled in undergraduate biochemistry and chemistry curriculum development. Course development will include didactic and laboratory instruction and assessment in STEM. Successful candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence, serving as a champion for science programs in the School of Health Sciences through positive interaction with prospective students and the public.

Student mentoring, academic advising at the undergraduate level, and new course development to support the dynamic and growing area is required. Candidates should have strong communication and interpersonal skills and a commitment to collegiality and teamwork.

Our growing undergraduate and graduate programs are looking to enhance and diversify offerings. The successful candidate will have the ability to work both within and beyond program specific needs to shape the on-going development of the curricula offered within the School of Health Sciences.

Successful candidates will demonstrate an avid interest in utilizing a project-focused approach to teaching, supporting the University's educational philosophy, Connected Learning. QUALIFICATIONS:

• A doctorate in Biochemistry, Chemistry or related field. Exceptional ABD or MS candidates with teaching and industry experience will also be considered.
• Collegiate-level teaching experience
• Proven ability to attract and retain new students
• Ability to teach upper level courses for biochemistry majors
• Ability to serve as a capstone research advisor for undergraduate students
• Experience advising and mentoring individuals from groups underrepresented in STEM fields is highly desirable.
