Job Description

Reporting to Associate Director of Global Study Abroad, the International Specialty Programs Academic Advisor serves as a full-time (calendar year) administrative/professional faculty member for International programs in UG Programs in PCOB. The major areas of responsibility include academic advising for undergraduate international student business majors, with particular emphasis on those in joint programs, and performing duties related to advising and registration, ongoing training and professional development, and tasks relevant to international students. Additional job duties may include assisting colleagues as needed.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Provide holistic, student-focused academic advising services to approximately 500 undergraduate students located on campus and in other countries through individual appointments, emails, etc.
-Hands on approach to connecting with students
-Deliver accurate information and advice to students about their major course sequence, extracurricular activities, and campus resources.
-Meet regularly and track progress of coursework and English language
-Assist students in progressing through their degree to meet their academic and career goals
-Interpret and explain department, college, and university academic policies and procedures, especially as it relates to the joint program requirements and international student needs
-Initiate academic intervention for students in academic difficulty
-Provide individualized support and assess student needs to make appropriate referrals to campus resources
-Registration assistance
-Engage in professional development activities to remain current with academic advising best practices
-Work collegially with academic advising team in UG programs
-Provide services outside of normal work hours to meet virtually with students outside of the US
-Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

-Bachelor’s degree in business, education, counseling, or a related field coupled
with training and/or experience which may equate to an advanced degree
-Working knowledge of academic advising offices, programs, policies and software
-Previous professional student-focused experience in a higher education setting (e.g. academic advising, career advising, student affairs, etc.)
-Previous experience working with diverse student populations
-Excellent communication and presentation skills
-Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail
-Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain a high level of confidentiality and discretion
-Ability to work with flexible hours to meet with students across time zones
-English and Mandarin fluency
-Ability to use multiple apps and platforms to converse with students located in other countries
-Ability to work independently and collaboratively

Preferred Qualifications

-Master’s degree in business, education, counseling, higher education
administration, or related field
-Previous professional academic advising experience in a business discipline
-Experience using student information systems such as Banner and Navigate
-Knowledge of university academic policies and procedures
-Member of NACADA, NAFSA, or similar professional organization
-Previous experience working with international students
